The Clinical Trials Manager position is a vital & challenging opportunity to advance the future of clinical care. In this leadership role, you will oversee a team of qualified Research Coordinators, Assistants, Associates, & RN’s in the conduct of clinical trials. You will assist Principal Investigators (PI) in the conduct of practice changing clinical trials sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry & by academic-led Investigator Initiated clinical trials across several clinical specialty areas. The Clinical Trial Unit requires strong leadership for strategic planning, business planning & setting operating standards to better serve Albertans. Strong collaboration is key to ensure successful relationships with AHS physicians, managers, leaders, staff, patients, & all stakeholders involved in conducting clinical trials. While the position manages staff located within the WMH & MAZ, the Unit will support PI in the conduct of studies across the Edmonton Zone.Description:Some key Leadership and Human Resource Management responsibilities in the Clinical Trials Manager position include recruiting clinical trial staff, managing staff workload balance between clinical specialty areas, provide mentorship, guidance and ensure positive engagement to the CTU. A clinical trial orientation training program will need to be developed for new staff. Through regular assessment, it may be determined that progressive training may also be required. Other employee management accountabilities include reviewing and approving time entry, performance evaluations and conflict management. In this Manager position, you will require financial oversight to ensure costs of the unit are fully recovered, adjust staffing model as revenues increase or decrease and monitor monthly allocation of staff salary costs against research projects accounts. Developing and coordinating internal process improvement initiatives as they relate to the conduct of regulated, high quality research studies across specialty groups is an important element in the Clinical Trials Manager role. Successful process improvement will require collaboration with AHS stakeholders to understand challenges of operating studies in AHS facilities and design processes to streamline the conduct of studies in their areas as well as collaboration with Regulatory Quality Assurance staff to meet requirements of Health Canada and sponsors.

Required Qualifications:University Degree in Health-Related field. 5 years prior direct management experience. 5-10 years progressive experience within a clinical trial/research environment.Additional Required Qualifications:As Required.Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Clinical Research (SOCRA or ACRP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Tri-council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS 2) . Experience using AHS applications: Oracle PeopleSoft (ePeople), AHS MyLearningLink and Identity Access Management. Experience with a Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS); Preferably Advarra/Forte OnCore. Knowledge of AHS Bylaws and Corporate Policies.
