Job Description

Are you a TrailblazerWhat do you want to be today Edmonton Public Library is looking for an outgoing and creative Trailblazer to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Trailblazer (aka Community Librarian) who is passionate about working with the public and community organizations in a challenging and fast-paced environment.What were looking for:At EPL our mission is simple: we share! Our Community Librarians are energetic, out-of-the-building thinkers who want to make a very real difference in the community... the final frontier. Their continuing mission is to explore new worlds of librarianship in close collaboration with a diverse range of people, to seek out new relationships and services - to boldly go where no Librarian has gone before!Job Requirements:

  • Master of Library & Information Studies degree, or equivalent, from ALA-accredited institution is required.
  • Experience working with community organizations, Indigenous peoples, and newcomer populations is preferred.
  • Experience working as a professional Librarian is preferred.

  • A commitment to upholding the Canadian Federation of Library Associations position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Ability to assess community interests and needs, and to plan services accordingly, in keeping with the Librarys business plan and strategic directions.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers of all ages and backgrounds; experience working with users from a wide variety of cultural, economic, social and educational backgrounds is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively outside of traditional library activities and settings.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and new service directions.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal, communication, presentation and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to contribute positively and work effectively within a team environment.

  • Approximately $70,463 - $89,930 per annum based on a 35 hour work week.
Shift differential may apply in accordance with the terms and conditions of the CSU 52 Collective Agreement.Note:
  • Satisfactory background screenings is required for this position which includes a Criminal Record Check/Police Information Check.
  • This position consists of varied schedules which include day, evening and weekend shifts.
  • Community Librarians are subject to variable hours of work as per the Collective Agreement and shift length may vary based on operational needs.
