Job Description

Job Title: Community Outreach WorkerBased at: Downtown, EdmontonReports to: Manager, Homeless ProgramsHours of work: 40hrs per week, Mon-FriSalary: Starting at $23/hr - $25/hrStart date: December 2022Status: Contract Position until May 31, 2022 (with potential to be brought on permanent full time after contract)______________________________________________________________________________________OUR MISSIONTo serve, strengthen and uplift men, women, youth and children through the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ ______________________________________________________________________________________Job Summary: The Community Outreach Worker position focuses on providing assertive outreach to businesses and community members around Hope Mission shelters in the Chinatown area. The goal of the position is to support people experiencing homelessness on the streets or in encampments and to develop relationships and rapport with businesses in the area. Workers in this position will also spend time inside Hope Mission facilities, connecting with people using daytime services.Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Building relationships with community members experiencing homelessness and providing warm handoff connections to supports such as nursing, housing, addiction recovery services and more
  • Encouraging community members living in encampments or staying outside to access services - building trust and rapport
  • Providing basic services such as clothing, water, food and hygiene items to people outside
  • Engaging in emergency response when required, including use of naloxone during a drug poisoning
  • Spending time in Hope Mission shelters and daytime drop-in spaces, building relationships with community members with the intention of helping them exit homelessness
  • Performing administrative tasks as needed, such as tracking key statistics
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and active-listening skills - genuinely interested in supporting community members experiencing homelessness
  • Able to work co-operatively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Able to demonstrate patience and understanding for those with addictions, mental health, and/or behavioral disorders
  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Has a good understanding of trauma-informed care and meeting clients where they are at
  • Experience working in the inner city is an asset but not a requirement
Other Requirements:
  • Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Adherence Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
