Job Description

Description:Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Comprehensive Breast Care Program (CBCP) Lead, Cross Cancer Institute (CCI). This 0.20 FTE position, governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Facility Medical Director, Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) and the Zone Clinical Department Heads of Oncology and Surgery.This role is a strategic leadership position working in collaboration between the Department of Oncology, Department of Surgery, the Cross Cancer Institute, and Cancer Care Alberta.The role will provide CBCP program leadership and help to continue and ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care.Responsibilities:

  • Lead/Attend weekly mentoring sessions with the Nurse Navigators who will present cases that were referred for non-cancer issues.
  • Provide advise to nurse navigators regarding follow up recommendations which are sent to the referring physician; work with the nurse navigators in difficult case reviews.
  • In coordination with the program manager ensure that the referring physicians have access to the appropriate services in the region.
  • Organize and present Quality Assurance Rounds quarterly.Review all cases that fall outside of our designated wait times in an effort to identify areas that can be improved.Review representative cases that demonstrate systemic errors.
  • Lead improvement processes for the regional breast care by addressing issues brought forward by other specialties.
  • Organize, schedule, and present Breast Multidisciplinary Rounds every two weeks.Cases are submitted from surgeons and oncologists from Northern Alberta and the patient information must be obtained through Netcare, coordinated with pathology and radiology and presented via Telehealth.
  • Meet with the regional breast surgeons at a minimum on an annual basis to review updates in care, research, quality assurance issues and wait times.
  • Provide breast education to physicians and the public through continuing education presentations.
  • Act as a liaison for other specialties in the zone and provincially for the CBCP program.
  • Work with Women’s Health ambulatory clinics and the Hereditary Allard HBOC clinic to allow access to patients at high risk of breast cancer to receive counselling and appropriate care.
  • Continue to build upon and establish new collaborations with a variety of disciplines to best support breast cancer patients.
  • Attend multidisciplinary case conferences.
  • Work with seniors medical leaders to ensure the appropriate resources are available to manage breast cancer patient care and explore different paradigms in patient care.
This position has an expected start date of July 1, 2023 and an expected term length of three (3) years.Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety.
