Job Description

The Trans Mountain Expansion Project will provide increased capacity to support Canadian crude oil production growth and ensure access to global energy markets. The largest project in the pipeline’s history, it involves installing approximately 980 kilometres of new pipeline, as well as new and modified facilities.Our Core ValuesTrans Mountain’s core values – Safety, Integrity, Respect and Excellence – guide our every step. Together, we’re focused on doing the right thing for each other and our communities.This position is responsible for ensuring the effective functioning of the field operations of the Trans Mountain (TM) corrosion prevention program. The position plays a central role in the completion of the field portion of the installation and maintenance of the TM Cathodic Protection System on all operating and decommissioned assets. The Corrosion Technicians perform both Pipeline Integrity/Maintenance inspection and contractor oversight duties.Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee all civil, mechanical, and electrical construction activities for Cathodic Protection assets, including all ground bed, rectifier, and AC mitigation installations, as well as perform all related electrical activities.
  • Completes annual corrosion prevention program activities such as the annual cathodic protection rectifier maintenance and the annual Geohazard Survey.
  • Perform and/or oversee annual Cathodic Protection survey field data collection. Provide Quality Assurance for pipeline surface preparation (sandblasting) and coating application.
  • Required to pull electrical permits and work within regulatory codes and practices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair rectifiers and Remote Monitoring Units.
  • Coordinates Non-Destructive Examination activities for Cathodic Protection asset installation and maintenance.
  • Oversee and/or complete test station repairs and installations, rectifier and Remote Monitoring Unit installations, and foreign bonds to other underground utilities. Review rectifier Remote Monitoring Unit data and recommend ground bed replacements and other system changes.
  • Assist with other Pipeline Integrity and Maintenance activities where needed (when available). Provides emergency response capabilities to Right of Way locations.
Qualifications and Professional Requirements:
  • High School completion.
  • Must have a Journeyman Electrician Certificate (Red Seal and TQ Endorsement) with 3-5 years’ experience working in an Industrial Environment.
  • The ideal candidate would also have a AMPP Cathodic Protection II and AMPP CIP II (Coatings Inspector II) certification.
  • Background experience in Cathodic Protection systems for underground utilities and Corrosion Control Certification would be preferred.
  • Completion of the Canadian Standards Association Z662 training would be an asset.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, safety of company assets, employees, and the general public.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Work well in a both Team and Individual environments.
  • Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks as required.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
