Job Description

Criminal Intelligence Analyst July 01, 2023, October 21, 2023 and September 23, 2023Job Number : 44999** This posting is for one (1) Temporary Full-Time position ending on or before July 01, 2023 and two (2) Temporary Full-Time positions that may be extended up to 18 months in accordance with Section 18.02 of the Collective Agreement **The Crime Analysis and Intelligence Section of the Edmonton Police Service requires three (3) full-time temporary analysts with strong tactical and strategic analytical skills. The successful candidate qualities include demonstrating and applying creative and critical thought process, strong communication skills and can work independently and thoroughly as well in a collaborative team setting. Responsibilities in this challenging, dynamic, and rewarding professional position include:

  • Develop a variety of analytical products using; temporal and spatial analysis, phone and/or GPS analysis, association charts, timelines, predictive analysis, trend analysis, and social network analysis.
  • Providing both tactical and strategic analytical products.
  • Develop and apply analytical methodologies.
  • Performing advanced functions in creating intelligence through data collection, collation, analysis, and dissemination process as required.
  • Developing and preparing statistical reports and briefings and perform statistical analysis for reporting purposes.
  • Presenting developed intelligence in professional and public forums.
  • Liaising with various law enforcement and correctional agencies for intelligence sharing purposes.
  • Perform analysis using a variety of complex techniques and software applications.
  • Managing and maintaining various databases.
  • Performing offender identification related duties.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :Job Level
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field of study (ie. Social Sciences or Criminology)
  • Minimum of two (2) years related working experience.
  • Knowledge of analytical methods, statistics and practices.
  • Strong research capabilities.
  • Strong computer skills relevant to crime analysis (Microsoft Office, Analytical Software and GIS applications).
  • ArcGIS, i2, iBase and/or Cognos experience will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to produce a variety of professional analytical and statistical reports and presentations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in addition to the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Criminal Intelligence Certification will be considered an asset.
Opportunity Concept Level

  • As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division
