Job Description

We value and encourage different perspectives and we have the courage to do the right thing, even when its hard.Reporting to the Supervisor, Operational Technology Support (OTS), the Data Analyst (DA) is responsible to provide customer service to the Organizational Excellence Leadership team, operational leaders and other data/system experts by gathering work, workforce, and asset related data from multiple internal and external sources for the Natural Gas division. Leveraging this data, the DA is responsible to create reports and analytics to inform decision making and provide actionable support to key stakeholders that drive improved performance, better business decisions, and influence the health of our people and assets.Were looking for someone who cares about their work and strives for more each day. If you are someone who approaches work with passion, curiosity, and the courage to innovate, then this role is for you.Responsibilities:Data Acquisition, Design and Maintenance

  • Elicit and document data requirements to facilitate and support downstream reporting and analytic information needs.
  • Identify and/or create Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) connections to various data sources e.g. Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse.
  • Design and develop proof of concept data sources using Oracle SQL Developer - SQL query scripts.
  • Secure the OAC data sources with applicable security based on business requirements and in-line with enterprise security standards.
  • Deploy secured data source subject areas for OAC authors to consume and create various analytics.
  • Design, develop and maintain data diagrams and documentation that contributes and supports the organizations progressing data governance program and understanding of data sources and their ingestion, storage, processing, and delivery.
  • Identify data transformation needs to meet business reporting and analytic requirements.
  • Mine data from primary and secondary sources and reorganizing the data in a format that can be easily read by either human or machine.
  • Apply statistical and algorithm concepts (Probability, Correlation, Regression etc.) on ATCO data sets.
  • Remove corrupted data and review through root cause analysis
  • Use tools to interpret data sets, paying particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts.
Client Support and Business Analysis
  • Build reporting and analytics to support operational activities and strategic insights while providing recommendations to improve work, workforce and asset management processes
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information from staff in a timely manner
  • Work closely with leadership teams to create data strategies that support data modeling
  • Identify opportunities to work cross-functionally
  • Build strong and influential internal relationships to help ensure business objectives are being met
  • Create appropriate documentation and visuals that allows stakeholders to understand the data and the analysis process, including (but not limited to) dashboards, KPIs, graphs, charts, etc.
Strategic Thinking and Continuous Improvement
  • Assist in creating a strategy that helps to increase our workforce and asset efficiency.
  • Review and interpret business processes/requirements and support continuous improvement through the lens of data availability, data quality and trends.
  • Collaborate with IT Architecture and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and contribute to the development of data governance policies and practices.
  • Contribute to the establishment and adherence of data maintenance best practices and support large data collection and reporting initiatives as required.
  • Support change management activities.
  • Lead data discussions and decisions across departments within ATCO Gas improving on Data Accuracy, Consistency, Availability and Regulatory Reporting need
  • Be an advocate of standard operating procedures, standard tools/technologies, reusability and precise documentation.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Business, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in the area of information analysis, including building data modeling and analyzing complex quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experienced with data visualization tools such as Microsoft PowerBI with ability to create data models, DAX (data analysis expressions), KPI metrics, role level security setup and training materials
  • Experience with delivering end-to-end analytics solutions or programs to Business Leaders while managing expectations, timelines and communications
  • Experience with enterprise architecture and cloud technologies including data warehousing
  • Strong understanding of Python scripting
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Projects and SharePoint.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify and prioritize the right KPIs and metrics.
  • Strong query writing and usage, familiarity with statistical analysis, data visualization, and data cleansing tools and techniques (Oracle, DB2, MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL etc.)
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, synthesize and communicate complex information to technical as well as non-technical stakeholders in a logical and concise manner
  • Ability to diagnose system problems related to data collection and data retrieval through research and discussion with users and then develop and implement effective solutions to resolve the issues
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to present findings in a clear and professional manner, both verbally and in written reports
  • Exceptional work ethic, with the ability to work independently, see competing priorities through to completion, on time, and with a high level of quality.
  • Is a team player; willingness to help in all other aspects of work, including those outside of core responsibility
  • Has technical knowledge/skill in one or more of the following. Preference will be given to individuals having direct experience with OBIEE, OTBI, BI Publisher and Oracle SQL Developer.
