Job Description

Job Title: Data Analytics Specialist Location: 100% Remote (Work must be done from within Canada) Type: Long-Term Contract (with possibility of extension) Working Hours: 37.5 hours/week Important Notes:

  • Work must be performed from within Canada, due to data and network security requirements.
  • While this is a remote position, the candidate must be available for onsite meetings up to 3 4 times per fiscal year.
  • No travel, accommodation, or relocation expenses will be covered for onsite meetings.
  • Onsite attendance may be negotiable, particularly if the candidate resides outside Alberta.
Role Overview:We are seeking a Data Analytics Specialist to support and lead key strategic data initiatives within a Government of Alberta (GoA) department. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to translate complex data into actionable insights and support strategic business planning. This role is highly collaborative and will involve working with cross-functional teams to build data models, design analytic service offerings, and develop advanced analytics capabilities that influence decision-making at the executive level.Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and expertise in analytics project design and execution.
  • Develop and share data products, models, and visualizations.
  • Analyze raw data and build algorithms for predictive and prescriptive modeling.
  • Translate business needs into analytical strategies and tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers and analysts.
  • Mentor and coach team members in data best practices.
  • Present insights, models, and roadmaps to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Design dashboards, custom reports, and visualizations.
  • Define and track metrics, KPIs, and business outcomes.
  • Work within a multi-vendor, cross-team environment.
  • Support GoA #39;s data strategy and foster a data-driven culture.
Required Skillsamp; Experience:
  • Proven experience in Data Analytics or Data Science roles.
  • Expertise in preparing data for prescriptive and predictive modeling.
  • Strong grasp of predictive analytics and reusable analytical assets.
  • Experience using statistical and computer languages: Python, R, SQL (6+ years).
  • Ability to understand complex business problems and define analytics solutions (6+ years).
  • Experience in building analytical and quantitative models (6+ years).
  • Familiarity with data science, data engineering, or AI projects (6+ years).
  • Expertise in statistical and data mining techniques (6+ years).
  • Experience with data visualization and dashboard design (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) (5+ years).
  • Experience with analytical project requirements gathering (5+ years).
  • Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines or workflows (3+ years).
  • Working knowledge of big data/cloud platforms (e.g., Spark, Azure, Snowflake) (3+ years).
  • Experience working with large government datasets (3+ years).
Nice to Have:
  • Knowledge of data sharing, linkage, de-identification, ethics, metadata, and synthetic data (5+ years).
  • Experience combining raw data across various domains (5+ years).
  • Ability to explain complex data principles to non-technical stakeholders (5+ years).
  • Background in public sector or government data analytics initiatives.
