Job Description

Location: AlbertaThe Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is the nation’s leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the species they sustain. With a national office in Toronto and seven regional offices across the country, NCC delivers results you can walk on.Purpose and General Description:The Data Interns are responsible for supporting data entry and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) of content in NCC’s internal databases for Alberta. The Data Interns will report to the Data and Information Coordinator and will work closely with the other conservation staff and the rest of the regional team in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. Externally, the Data Interns will work with partner organizations and others as opportunities arise.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Entering and finalizing outstanding data including:
    • Species data;
    • Field monitoring details;
    • Anthropogenic features;
    • Reconciliation between paper documents and internal database; and
    • New project details.
  • Document clean up including:
    • Moving files and documents to correct locations;
    • Renaming files and documents as needed; and
    • Updating Content Type of files and documents as needed.
  • Working with QAQC spreadsheets to highlighting gaps in data and update content when possible.
  • Supporting Conservation staff with:
    • Historic data entry (range data, species data, monitoring details);
    • WildTrax remote wildlife photo tagging;
    • General data entry needs; and
    • Pre-generating reports for the 2022 field season.
  • Supporting the conservation team with site visits or events, as needed and if COVID-19 regulations allow.
Required Skills and Attributes:
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.).
  • Background in science, conservation, ecology, or environmental studies is an asset.
  • Diploma or equivalent experience in data management or conservation sciences, ecology, environmental studies.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently, and at least partially from home.
Terms of Employment:
  • Location: Alberta
  • Work Week: 37.5 hours per week
  • Hourly Wage: $18
  • Position Details: Subject to funding these are a 4 to 6-month internship starting in April-May 2022
