THE OPPORTUNITYWe have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Commercial Operations to join Overhead Door Co. of Edmonton. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Commercial Operations is an integral component of the leadership group with primary responsibility for profit and loss of all segments of our Commercial business. They will adjust priorities between operations and business development based on the needs of the department and organize the resources in order to sustainably execute for their customers. In addition, they will be an active member of the executive team that will lead or support corporate initiatives including major objectives that will have benefits extending beyond the Commercial department. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for leading a team of six direct reports, overseeing their performance and development to achieve departmental goals.THE ORGANIZATIONOverhead Door Co. was established in 1961. Johnson based his company on.For more information about Overhead Door, please visit www.overheaddoor.caSupervisoryProvide timely feedback on employee performance, both formal and informal, coupled with execution of personal development plans.Recruit, train, develop and motivate the team; drive a culture of teamwork and employee involvement to optimize individual and team performance; maximize team potential through regular business reviews and structured training.Lead or assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s mission and help execute growth plans.Active participant in the weekly management meeting providing updates specific to the Commercial department as well as leading and/or supporting other relevant objectives within the leadership team.Produce a quarterly board report for Commercial and participate in the advisory board meeting discussing and resolving higher level issues and opportunities.Interact with other internal departments, at all levels, to coordinate and align the Commercial requirements with those of the organization.Training, mentoring and coaching the Commercial team and other staff on delivering exceptional performance to our customers and to the organization.OperationsBe forward looking on customer commitments across all segments of the Commercial business to determine requirements for both material and labour resources providing support to your team in building a plan to successfully execute.Lead by example reinforcing a culture of safety and continuous improvement.Coordinate with our Healthamp; Safety Officer to ensure that all applicable personnel have the appropriate certifications to complete their tasks and comply with customer site requirements.For any customer facing issues, you will respond to all escalated issues in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of both the customer and the organization.Ongoing review of financial performance, relative to plan, and communication of applicable details to your team and implement initiatives to improve performance in required areas and monitor for sustainability.Locate areas of improvement and propose corrective actions that meet challenges and leverage growth opportunities.Resolve short term issues for material, labour and assets that would impact the organization’s ability to fulfill our commitments to the customer and achieve targets.Identify longer term needs specific to headcount, organizational structure and roles, training and capital for your team to meet expected revenue and profitability goals.Participate in weekly toolbox meetings and monthly safety meetings to ensure that your team is fully aware and discussing items critical to the success of the Commercial department.Provide oversight to receivables and provide support to Accounting where required which may include direct customer interaction.Sales and Business DevelopmentDesign and implement a strategic business plan that expands company’s customer base and ensure its strong presence in all segments (Install, Service and Supply Only).Oversight of sales funnel including identifying new business development opportunities and regular follow-up to understand current status and take the applicable steps to put the organization in the best position to achieve target conversion rates.In collaboration with your sales group, identify emerging markets and market shifts while being fully aware of new products and competitor status.Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs along with active involvement in industry events.Manage, develop, coach, control and motivate the sales force to develop their skill to ensure that a high professional standard is achieved and KPI targets are met .Provide on-the-ground support for sales associates as they generate leads and close bid opportunities.Provide guidance in the creation of specific bid opportunities and the approval of bids where applicable prior to submission. This process may also include working with supplier(s) on product options and associated costing.Collaborate with our supplier’s product quality, new product development opportunities as well as training.Lead a weekly salesamp; operations meeting to discuss current performance, new opportunities and potential barriers to performance with your team.Reporting on sales performance key metrics on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to the applicable groups relative to established targets.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in business or equivalent proven experience.7-10 years in a management role with P amp;L responsibility.Experience in the construction industry and/or a service operations leadership role is an asset.Superior management skills with ability to influence and engage directly with all team members.Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, ability to channel relevant feedback and information into the creation of specific, executable, and time-and cost-effective strategies.Ability to successfully manage assigned tasks, time and priorities through to completion with limited supervision.Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.The ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment, with changing demands and requirements.KEY COMPETENCIESWillingness to engage in constructive conflict on issues with your peer group and supervisors for the betterment of the organization despite the discomfort that can often come with it.Positive team player with a willingness to complete a variety of tasks that could change in accordance with the requirements of day-to-day priorities.Meets all team deadlines and responsibilities, listens to others and values opinions, helps team leader to meet goals, welcomes newcomers and promotes a team atmosphere.Naturally inclined to communicate, both verbal and written, with all areas of the business (business partners, team members, other departments, etc.) ensuring requirements are consistently achieved.A demonstrated commitment to maintaining high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.SANDY JACOBSON | T: 780.944.1327 | E: sandy.jacobson@richardsonsearch.ca | www.richardsonsearch.ca
