Job Description

Overview: The Regional Smart Fare System is a new facility being launched in Edmonton that allows riders to pay for transit using a variety of methods including credit cards, debit cards, other compatible smart cards and smart devices. The tap and go fare payment system makes paying for transit as simple as buying a cup of coffee. It also makes travel across the Edmonton Metropolitan Region easier for customers since one account could be used on all participating transit systems, including Edmonton, St. Albert and Strathcona County.The role of VSB Analyst - Finance is critical to the success of the project with the successful applicant holding primary responsibility for financial management, reporting, policy and process development and auditing. The VSB Analyst - Finance will work in the Vix Service Bureau, a growing area of service for VixThe success of this role will be measured by the overall success of:*Customer Satisfaction (both transit riders and transit agency)

Responsibilities: The following responsibilities and duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. The successful candidate may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
  • Oversee revenue reporting processes, implement effective internal controls and systems for monitoring, collecting, accounting for and reporting revenue and the reconciliation of RSFS revenues
  • Ensure production of all appropriate revenue reports on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis
  • Complete required data extracts, financial transaction processing and reporting including settlement and adjustments
  • Deliver, validate and understand reports showing revenue allocation by a transit agency and by fare item as well as a monthly recap of system transactions
  • Deliver dashboard-style performance reporting against established financial service levels in accordance with project requirements
  • Understanding of financial compliance required, provincial legislation with respect to Gift Cards as an example
  • Complete daily financial reconciliation
Transit Agency Relations
  • Communicate and coordinate with agency stakeholders to ensure their needs are addressed
  • Provide stakeholder specific reporting, via published or ad-hoc basis
  • Participate in financial modelling, projection development and review
Other
  • Participate in and support the successful completion of internal and external Financial Audits
  • Implement any changes required as a result of audits or as requested by the Vix Service Bureau customers
  • Seek to continually improve processes and reporting, recommending and developing improvements continuously for Vix and for our customers
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree in finance or accounting
  • Experience with personal computer software programs, including accounting software, software affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets, scorecards, interactive and static reports
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proven ability to track and meet Financial Service Level Agreements, Key Performance Indicators
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, management, transit agencies, and auditors
*Desirable*
  • Possess and maintain a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
  • Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Six Sigma experience
Knowledge & ExperienceEssential:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior accounting role
  • Knowledge of transit, transportation, ITS, or tolling.
  • Passion for efficiency
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible to work off-shift hours
  • Strong ability to prioritize and organize work
Desirable
  • Experience working in a global project delivery organization
