Alberta Health’s teams of professionals also ensure Alberta has a high quality, stable, accountable and sustainable health system.For more information on the work Alberta Health does, visit this link:RoleDo you consider yourself knowledgeable in the Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and Personal Information and Protection Act (PIPA) The Health FOIP unit is looking for an experienced policy analyst to help navigate the complex circumstances around protecting health information while ensuring information is shared when appropriate.Reporting to the Manager, FOIP/HIA Coordinator, the FOIP Advisor manages access requests for records in the custody and control of Alberta Health under the FOIP Act and the Health Information Act, providing input in the appeals and reviews with the Alberta Information and Privacy Commissioner, ensuring general understanding and incorporation of practices consistent with the FOIP Act.Utilizing your in-depth knowledge of the HIA, FOIP and PIPA legislation will allow you to analyze and interpret documentation successfully. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive consultative relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and the public.This position must analyze complex policy, procedural, system and legal issues to provide possible outcomes or solutions associated with access and privacy disclosure related matters.Your exceptional FOIP knowledge and your effective communication (both verbally and written) skills will enable you to be successful in this position. Your proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of key stakeholders including senior management and your effective management of deliverables within short timelines is essential to your success in this role. In addition, you are required to have strong time management skills, with the ability to self-manage your own case load.This position exercises considerable interpersonal skills working with the public and other health related organizations as well as departmental, government and external health sector contacts at all levels, to support policy compliance with legislation.Furthermore, you are able to demonstrate agility by working in an environment that has shifting priorities, while still successfully managing multiple priorities and projects. You are able to manage your workload independently and prioritize work in a fast-paced unit with competing demands.QualificationsA University Degree in Business/Public Administration, Information Management, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related field and a minimum four (4) years of directly related work experience is required.A cover letter outlining how your experience relates to the qualifications of this role is required.Preference will be given to those with:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies
  • Experience working in a health sector environment
  • Experience leading project management initiatives
The following are considered Assets:
  • Experience with Government standards and protocols.
  • A certificate in Information Access and Protection of Privacy and experience with HIA, FOIP and PIPA legislation.
