Job Description

Work with the Alberta Avenue Community League Board and Facility & Program Manager to do community outreach, engagement, program planning and coordinate activities and events.*We want our neighbours to come together, get to know each other better, strengthen connections with each other, and become more engaged with their neighbourhood.Food security is an issue in our community and food is also a great way to bring people together. We want to develop a variety of food programs and initiatives such as: low cost food baskets, meal kits, collective kitchen, meal prep & cooking classes, global (cultural) cooking, and community meals as well as food related workshops such as canning and showing food documentaries.Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Help create a food program plan, track progress, and revise as needed.
  • Use various outreach and communication strategies to reach residents and help them access the programs.
  • Have conversations with residents for their ideas and feedback and track and analyze data.
  • Help connect residents with similar interests or complementary offers/needs.
  • Help build a team of community leaders and volunteers to start a variety of food programs, initiatives and workshops.
  • Connect residents with additional food resources as needed.
  • Led a variety of food programs while training and mentor volunteers to take over.
  • Manage league resources, shop for needed groceries & supplies, plan menus, organize volunteers to prep food, and serve food as needed.
Skills
  • Food Handling certificate
  • Cooking experience or training
  • Experience teaching or leading groups an asset
  • Drivers lisence and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Experience working with volunteers and leading a team
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Outgoing and friendly personality
Hours
  • 15-30 hours per week up to 270 hours between August and December 2021.
  • A variety of weekday, evening and weekend work will be required.
  • Scheduling and hours are flexible and can work around school commitments.
