For more information on the work Alberta Health does, visit this link:RoleReporting to the Team Lead, Health Funding, this position plays an active role in the analysis of health financial data, clinical data supporting key Ministry business areas as well as providing technical/business support to the Financial Information Reporting Management System (FIRMS). FIRMS is an online system designed to collect quarterly financial and statistical information from all continuing care operators in Alberta. Other responsibilities include supporting Branch research, development and evaluation of strategic funding policies, practices, and performance standards for the Alberta health care system.The Funding Analyst will leverage their knowledge in conducting background research and providing input into analytical methodology, indicators, and statistical applications, supporting funding policy through analysis and assessment of socio-economic trends. Your excellent writing skills will be a key component in this position as you and draft documents that could include; policy/options papers, briefing notes, decision documents, committee notes, and presentation materials.Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain processes for data collection, database architecture and development, and reporting on financial and economic datasets, including FIRMS.
  • Prepare statistical and financial reports by gathering, verifying and analyzing financial information using appropriate statistical packages and business intelligence tools (such as SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Visual Analytics, etc.), demonstrating knowledge of financial and accounting principles.
  • Support the development of statistical/economic and financial models or analysis within the Branch.
  • Conducts background research and provides input into analytical methodology, indicators, and statistical applications to measure, track and report on a range of information impacting health funding performance and its alignment with health system strategy.
  • Conducts analysis and assessment of socio-economic trends, stakeholder behaviour, historical patterns, and comparative option analyses to support broader Ministry funding initiatives and economic strategies.
  • Develops and maintain work relationships with relevant health system stakeholders including other ministries and AHS to ensure positive and productive communication with assigned projects and key data resources.
  • Supports the Team and Branch to complete projects on time with excellent quality.
  • Drafting of documents which could include policy/options papers, briefing notes, decision documents, committee notes, and presentation materials.
QualificationsA University graduation in a related discipline such as Economics, Business, Mathematics/Statistics, or Computer Science and a minimum of two (2) years related experience is required.Required experience includes:
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access
  • Experience working with large data sets and programming software (SAS, Access, SQL, and/or Oracle).
  • Working knowledge of SAS Enterprise Guide and Visual Analytics
Preference will be given to individuals with:
  • Experience drafting written materials such as; briefing notes, memos, decision documents
The following experience is considered an asset:
  • Experience working with analytical methods and different economic analysis tools and/or health system experience
  • Understands analysis tools and visualization tools in the context of Ministry policy analysis and development

Position Location:
  • ATB Place North, Edmonton. This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).
