Job Description

As such, we welcome talented individuals that have a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and industry experience who will contribute to the success of our One Parkland team.Position Title: General ManagerTeam and Location: Commercial - Edmonton, ABPosition Summary:As the senior manager for the region, the General Manager will have full P&L responsibility for the region and management team responsibility/execution of strategic initiatives, safety, sales, customer service, and operations. This role is part of the Commercial Leadership Team with responsibility for developing and delivering strategy, culture, and financial results. The General Manager is expected to understand the business end-to-end and have the ability to balance multiple priorities, capital planning, and resource alignment in order to achieve aggressive growth and profitability improvement targets. Other key responsibilities include overseeing customer experience, logistics and supply chain management, operational effectiveness, employee engagement, and continuous improvement. The General Manager is accountable for the region’s key performance indicators including financial (Revenue/Volume growth, EBITDA, Return on Capital, Operating Ratio) and Non-Financial (safety, productivity improvement, customer service, employee engagement).Key Responsibilities:Safety

  • Instill a safety first culture throughout the organization.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate safety strategy, vision, and values.
  • Ensure adequate resources are allocated to complete HSE programs and initiatives
  • Accountable for the implementation, monitoring, and follow-up of safety programs across the region.
  • Role model for safety compliant behaviours that set the benchmark of what is expected from the team.
  • Take immediate action to correct and unsafe working condition, method, practice, procedures, equipment, and tools being used in region.
  • Assessing the safety performance of the team as part of their regular performance appraisal process.
Business Leadership
  • Understand and translate North America Commercial Strategic priorities into regional objectives & priorities.
  • Accountable for leading profitable business growth in the region and achievement of annual targets.
  • Provide direction and ownership of business results and KPI’s.
  • Accountable for budgets, forecasts, and key performance indicators.
  • Required to present business results, including variances to plan and action plans to improve performance.
  • Develop a strong relationship with key customers and maintain a high level of service. Resolve complex customer services issues in a timely fashion.
  • Create and review business cases and AFE that support capital spending.
  • Ensure proper safe guards in place to account for and protect assets.
  • Lead, reward & role model the desired Commercial Business operating culture.
  • Develop long-term vision for the region.
  • Develop M&A pipeline and work on corporate development opportunities.
  • Maintain market awareness and intelligence, ensuring Parkland maintains competitive within the targeted segments.
Sales
  • Ensure the establishment and achievement of annual regional sales objectives.
  • Ensure effective growth and margin expansion strategies are in place.
  • Ensure sales planning efforts on a regional basis and, in alignment with National sales, participate in sales planning on a national basis.
  • Ensure the Implementation of effective marketing strategies to support business growth objective.
  • Negotiate large customer contracts and tenders within region.
Operations
  • Ensure the establishment and achievement of annual regional operations objectives.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and motivate regional business team, including field operations, sales, and regional operations centre.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement to improve productivity, asset utilization, and cost improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with corporate support functions to ensure compliance with corporate processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborates with Supply & Distribution team to ensure alignment and effective placement of product in region.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Post-secondary education and 10+ years experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong business acumen and financial management skills.
  • A strong business presence complemented by resourcefulness, sound business judgement, customer focus, and a bias for action.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading a team (sales, customer service, and logistics operations) in a safe and profitable manor.
  • Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally across teams and to manage a large number of stakeholders.
  • A motivated team player with strong communications and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel with frequent overnights will be required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract.
