Job Description

Wilco Contractors Northwest Inc. is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to join its team. This is a dual role that will be supported by our current HSE advisor with a cross shift availability. This full time-year round position, is based out of our Edmonton facility located at 14420- 154 Ave NW, Edmonton. As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting the effective implementation of Wilco #39;s health and safety program on construction projects. Wilco Contractors Northwest Inc. is one of four companies that make up the Wilco Group of Companies. With over four decades of experience in project management and construction of parks, sports facilities, and environmental, landscape, and civil works, Wilco is a leader in delivering complex projects to its clients.Your main responsibilities would include working collaboratively with project management and field staff to provide guidance, support, and coaching on health and safety practices and procedures. You will help to ensure that Wilco Contractors Northwest Inc. meets or exceeds regulatory requirements while maintaining a strong safety culture. You will also have the opportunity to create, develop, and deliver training programs to Employees to promote health and safety awareness while building a strong safety culture. Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety program is aligned and complies with OHS regulations and applicable provincial legislative and regulatory laws for jurisdictions the company is operating within.
  • Maintain a visible presence to the field by performing site inspections to ensure adherence to corporate safety policies.
  • Shared responsibility for onboardingamp; safety orientation and safety training management.
  • Development of SWPs, JSAs, ERPs, and Site-Specific Safety Plans.
  • Update safety program development with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Liaise closely with all field personnel to ensure that the company HSE mandates, safety culture and vision are adhered to at all time.
  • Proactively develop and maintain corporate safety policies and procedures in accordance with OHS to reduce risks.
  • Maintenance and ongoing development of the Corporate Safety Manual.
  • Development of Traffic Accommodation Plans in accordance with project specs.
  • Maintain all requirements, documentation and filing for COR certification and audits.
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation (WCB) claims and return to work programs.
  • Manage incident investigations, near miss reporting, and root cause analysis.
  • Managing NSC to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with new hire orientations and required HSE Training.
  • Manage all safety records and staff training certificates.
  • Train and mentor staff to ensure safety compliance.
  • Prepare safety reports and bulletins for staff review.
  • Keeping detailed matrix for training requirements, maintain records of all health and safety-related training and assist in the development of rollout programs.
  • Lead safety meetings and all associated communications with employees and clients.
  • Development and presentation of weekly toolbox meetings.
  • Act as a resource to the Joint Health and Safety Committee, assisting and providing information and responses on behalf of the company.
Requirements
  • Minimum National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
  • 3-5 years of experience in health and safety in the construction industry- preference in heavy equipment or heavy civil construction
  • Knowledge of the OH amp;S Act, regulations and industry best practices
  • Knowledge of OSCAM Permitting and Traffic Accommodation
  • Experience working with WCBamp; claims management
  • Experience conducting orientation and training
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and listening skills
  • Ability to represent the company in a professional and courteous manner
  • Valid class 5 drivers license (minimum) with acceptable abstract
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Office environment (40%), field environment (50%), and shop/yard environment (10%)
