Please indicate your internal status using the "Advertisement" drop down menu when applying.This part-time position has a term length of one year less one day, from the date of hire.The Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science, University of Alberta is anticipating to hire 6 HCS Trainers to train intervention specialists and other frontline workers in Healthy Conversation Skills (HCS) as per the University of Southampton (UK) and Making Every Contact Count (MECC; National Health Service (NHS; UK)) approach.DutiesUnder the direction of and in consultation with the HeLTI Canada PI, Co-PI, and Alberta Lead, the HCS Trainers will:

  • Organize and conduct regular HCS training sessions.
  • Consult with other HCS Training Team members prior to sessions to ensure all HCS activities are ready to be implemented during Training sessions.
  • Coordinate session registration, logistics, pre-session surveys with administrative support people or be responsible for this work.
  • Conduct training sessions.
  • Organize and conduct refresher sessions as needed.
  • Organize and conduct networking sessions for people previously trained in HCS.
  • Consult with contact at U Southampton, UK and/or the MECC team in the UK (NIH) to learn about advances in HCS activities and guiding principles.
  • Facilitate tracking of people who received HCS training.
  • Deliver high level, multi-day training session to study staff and people in external agencies requiring this technique (Healthy Conversation Skills) to do their job.
  • Interact regularly with HCS Experts to learn how to train others in these specific techniques.
  • Work together as a national or international Training Delivery Group to ensure that they all understand and are comfortable and able to deliver the multi-day training without supervision.
  • Set coordinated schedules including other trainers and session participants.
  • Practice specific activities to be used in the training sessions.
  • Provide feedback to HCS Leads.
  • Work with HCS leads to develop and implement new or refined training activities.
  • Advance and support HCS in those who have received this training.
  • Connect with national and international HCS network members.
  • Responsible for setting training dates.
  • Coordinate HCS participant registration by working closely with administrative support staff.
Qualifications
  • Advanced training in Science or Arts in Health-related field (MSc preferred).
  • Successful completion of the Train the Trainer program for HCS in the Healthy Life Trajectories Initiative (HeLTI)-Canada project or some other means (e.g. MECC, University of Alberta-based training opportunities).
  • Computer skills: Word processing, Excel, Powerpoint, Shared Drives (for creating, updating, and accessing shared materials).
  • Knowledge of how to lead synchronous sessions on Zoom or similar video conferencing platforms.
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload.
