Job Description

We are devoted to making “Safety… Our Way of Life”.Summary:Under the direction of the Specialty Services Manager, the Mechanical Services HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Advisor will work closely with the Service Line managers to provide guidance and direction on HSE related matters to our employees, contractors, and management regarding the company and clients HSE requirements, policies, and procedures. The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission the vision and values of Fort McKay Group of Companies LP.This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.Key Focus:This position is required to perform the following, but not limited to:

  • Conducting Field Tours, Worker Observations and Work Site Safety Inspections
  • Travel to all contracted client work sites and locations as required to oversee HSE matters relating to operations.
  • Act as the first point of contact for HSE related matters for the Fort McKay Mechanical Services division.
  • Lead all safety meetings including toolbox meetings, pre-job planning/kick offs, monthly safety meetings, weekly client and HSE team meetings for the division, and provide the required safety and risk mitigation plans for daily activities to the client as required.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions. Complete incident causation analysis, root cause analysis, develop, implement and follow up on corrective actions in coordination with the Service Line Managers.
  • Monitors the performance for the work completed and ensure compliance with the company and clients HSE best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Review current and new procedures, accept Standards and ensure they are compliant with current OHS & client standards.
  • Participate in field Audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate with the HSE department on matters affecting both the division and the company as needed.
  • Prepare safety performance statistics to the Service Line Manager and to the HSE department as required.
  • Quality check, count and archive HSE/operations documentation. • Take lead in creating and reviewing Job Safety Analysis and perform updates as conditions and processes change
  • Perform general administrative duties such as electronic filing, booking training, and data entry.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current OH&S legislation, Federal and Provincial laws as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all client site requirements, communicate any changes pertaining to the scope of HSE to the Service Line Managers.
  • Participate with, and contribute to, ongoing procedural, policy and other documentation development and updates as required.
  • Promote an organizational culture that empowers all personnel to be involved in HSE matters and to pro-actively take action to reduce risk and to protect people and the environment.
  • Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required, candidates with an OH&S Certificate or Diploma are an asset. Candidates with the completion of a Red Seal/Trade Certification as a Millwright, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Welding, Machining, Steam/Pipefitting, or Metalworking are an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract. CSTS (Construction Safety Training Systems) and valid OSSA/CSO/BSO training is required.
  • A valid ACSA (Alberta Construction Safety Association) auditor certificate is an asset.
  • Candidates with Fall Protection and/or Confined Space certification would be an asset.
  • Candidates eligible/working on or designated an NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation are an asset. Holder of the NCSO designation is required. Candidates with a CRSP/CSP designation are preferable.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
  • At least 1-3 years of field industry experience in an Oil and Gas, Mining, Trucking, Procurement, Warehousing, or General Industry experience in a Mechanical Services environment on various client sites is required. Equivalent/related experience will be considered.
  • Able to work a schedule that includes working away from home for both short or long periods of time depending on client and company requirements.
  • Must be physically/mentally fit and able to drive/travel to various locations within the province safely in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work at heights and enter confined space areas.
  • Ability to work on client sites, sometimes in remote or isolated locations with significant time in the outdoors is required.
