The successful candidate will bring initiative and commitment and will be eager to apply their skills in an exciting and challenging area.Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources and partnering with business leaders, this position will develop and implement HR plans and strategies aligned with business plans to meet the needs of the client group; anticipate and determine people requirements to address potential business challenges to achieve business objectives; provide labour relations support to assigned client groups; facilitate discussions within the client group in support of people planning and implementation. Identify gaps or inconsistencies between the business plan and Human Resources programs and work with the business in conjunction with other HR functional partners to resolve those issues.Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business leaders to understand current issues that can be supported or resolved through HR practices, processes, or policies
  • Counsel/coach business leaders on the most effective solutions to resolve issues and support long-term objectives
  • Work with business leaders and the HR centers of excellences (COE) to promote a high-performance, results driven culture with the implementation of new HR initiatives and programs
  • Using established change management techniques, support the ongoing transformation within ATCO
  • Provide day-to-day advice, direction, and counsel to leadership with respect to interpretation of collective agreements and employee relation matters of assigned client groups
  • Manages union and management relationships to assist in resolving labour relations issues, including promoting progressive labour relations framework
  • Lead grievance processes and participate in arbitration processes
  • Participate in building strong union/management relationships, including promoting a progressive labour relations framework
  • Provides recommendations and input to Human Resources initiatives and programs related to compensation, recruiting, union/management and employee/management relations and communication
  • Investigates and resolves complex and sensitive employee relations issues for assigned client groups
  • Lead and/or participate on HR committees and projects
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelors degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations or equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience of labour relations experience in an electricity utilities setting is a must
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is preferred
  • Comfortable interacting and building relationships with executives, field staff and union executives
  • Experience with ORACLE is an asset, intermediate excel skills are a must
  • Experience with unions, grievances and arbitration is required
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
