Job Description

QM’s four business lines include Demolition and Decommissioning, Hazardous Materials Abatement, Environmental Remediation including Civil Earthworks, and Emergency Management & Environmental Response Services.POSITION SUMMARYThe HRBP provides strategic HR support to a designated region. As the strategic partner, this person builds strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure employees are engaged and HR programs/policies/procedures/strategic initiatives are aligned, communicated, and implemented consistently. This is a high-touch position where in-person interaction with local team members is required on a continuous basis.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • All stakeholders are trained in UKG and UKG is fully and successfully implemented
  • Positions are filled in accordance with business needs
  • Career plans are built for employees in accordance with QM’s framework
  • Orientations are conducted in-person; job sites and local office/s are visited on a continuous basis
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESRecruiting, Onboarding, Offboarding, Employment-Changes
  • Full-cycle recruiting, including building job descriptions, placing ads, building a network of qualified candidates, interviewing, attending career fairs, building relationships with local colleges/universities, and other sources of talent, etc
  • Building recruiting plans to strategically source talent, including coops and internships
  • Onboarding, including coordinating and conducting in-person and on-line orientations, ensuring that all paperwork is completed and submitted for processing
  • Offboarding, including conducting exit interviews, gathering information, updating systems, etc
  • Working with internal stakeholders regarding employment-related changes, ensuring that the proper information is gathered, approvals are obtained, and changes are documented and implemented in accordance with QM’s policies and procedures
UKG/HRIS System
  • Be the local subject-matter-expert in all things UKG (QM’s HRIS system)
  • Train new hires; provide refresher training and specialized training as necessary and in-person when-ever possible
  • Work with all QM employees to ensure that everyone is using the system to it’s maximum potential
  • Updating the system as required
  • Prepare, review and analyze reports; work with managers to identify trends, and build action plans to address any negative trends
Manager and Employee Relations, Employee Engagement & Retention
  • Build relationships with employees and managers, becoming their local go-to person for everything HR-related
  • Work with local managers to increase employee engagement
  • Plan and assist with events
  • Visit local job sites, offices constantly, developing an in-person rapport with employees and managers
  • Help resolve any employment-related issues
  • Work with managers, employees to build career plans, training plans and retention plans
Other
  • Working as part of the overall HR & Payroll team, communicates and implements strategies, ensuring compliance, engagement and consistency
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assisting with mergers and acquisitions
  • Ensures that all employment-related processes, policies, procedures, strategic initiatives are communicated and implemented in accordance with QM’s guidelines
  • Works as a member of the team; makes recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Other responsibilities as required
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KEY COMPETENCIESExperience
  • Five (5) years of HR experience in an administrative, generalist or business-partner role, preferably in construction or other project-related companies
  • Experience in key-HR areas including payroll administration, benefits, and compensation, recruiting, onboarding, off-boarding, policy writing, communication, interpretation and implementation, employee relations, training, etc
  • Previous experience with a unionized workforce
  • Previous experience in payroll is an asset
  • Previous experience in both small and large organizations is an asset
  • Previous experience working with HRIS systems, UKG (Ultimate Software/Kronos preferred)
  • Previous experience implementing and training on HRIS systems, payroll systems is an asset
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree/certification in HR
  • Safety training is an asset
  • Must have strong knowledge of employment-related legislation and how it’s applied
  • Detail and process-oriented; focus on accurate work
