Job Description

The Hydro Vac Operator is a skilled position requiring the individual to perform driving, operation, and location of buried facilities in an extremely safety focused mindset. Each of our units will be operator run with no swampier. This individual is a team player with a strong work ethic. Core Competencies • Class I driver’s license is preferred • Safety & Quality Focused • Telecommunication Construction • Communication • Teamwork • Adaptability / Flexibility • Problem Solving • Accountability and Dependability • Attention to Detail Job Duties • Responsible for safely locating buried utilities.

  • Daily required maintenance of the hydro-vac as per manufactures specifications. • Ability to read Telecom plans. • Ability to interpret locate tickets and utilities found. • Must identify all unsafe working conditions and not proceed with work if it endangers the technician, other workers, customers, and/or the public.
  • Maintains company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines. • Meet the quality standards to satisfy customer needs. • Apply due diligence ensuring accuracy in preparing and promptly completing all necessary documentation, slurry logs, equipment log and FLHA. • Assists with boarding and staking as required.
  • And any other duties and responsibilities as assigned. • Perform additional assignments per supervisors direction. Requirements • Valid driver’s license minimum Class 3 with air brakes, Class 1 preferred, clean abstract, and own vehicle. • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.
  • Physically fit and able to bend, kneel, climb, and lift (up to 75 lbs). • Prior experience in buried telecommunication construction. • Knowledge of utility depths and placements. • Possess general knowledge of construction practices.
  • Mechanically inclined. • Strong work ethic. • Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather (i.e., snow, rain, wind, etc.) if required. Work Conditions • Ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Equipped to work in excavations, manholes and tunnels. • Prepared to sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach and lift for long periods of time. • Able to lift to 75 lbs. • Valid Canadian Driver’s License.
  • Over time, as required. • Able to work in various locations in western Canada.
