The purpose of these contacts is to provide clarification, advice and assistance with regards to the legislation, policy, and procedures administered by the Ministry.The Contact Centres Unit primarily focuses on responding to public inquires related to Consumer and Residential Tenancies legislation, including complex, multi-faceted politically sensitive and high priority complaints/offences/concerns under various pieces of legislation administered by Service Alberta.RoleAre you looking for a challenging opportunity in a fast-paced environment with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders and supports a team that ensures information services are continuously available for Albertans, Law enforcement, the government and other stakeholders If so, this is the job for you!Reporting to the Contact Centre Team Lead, the Information Officer is primarily responsible for providing courteous, timely and accurate information or advice to callers regarding legislation and associated programs. The position is in contact with the general public, including the business community, associations, law enforcement, the legal community and ministry/divisional staff on a daily basis via the telephone and email.The Information Officer ensures:

  • Providing full and accurate information services to callers via the telephone regarding legislation and related programs.
  • Providing appropriate referrals to municipal, provincial or federal government, departments, agencies, associations, courts, law enforcement bodies and legal counsel when the call does not pertain to Service Alberta. This requires the Information Officer to be familiar with programs administered by other government departments and agencies.
  • Providing information services via electronic mail.
  • Logging clients’ calls on the Consumer Affairs Tracking System (CATS), for statistical and reporting purposes.
  • Researching and performing updates on the Consumer Information System (CISC) referral system.
  • Identifying marketplace trends, concerns and reporting them to the Director/Team Leader.
  • Developing and maintaining an extensive knowledge base in order to respond to inquiries.

  • Has the ability to comprehend and interpret legislative issues and relay information in understandable terms to clients.
  • Must be familiar with programs administered by other government departments and agencies.
  • Must be able to use appropriate telephone techniques, professionalism and good judgment in the handling of calls regarding complex, multifaceted, politically sensitive and high priority complaints.
QualificationsApplications without cover letters demonstrating how your skills and experience relates to the role will not be considered.High school diploma and four years of related experience.Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.The Information Officer will require:
  • An in-depth understanding and comprehensive knowledge of Ministry legislations such as Traffic Safety Act, Business Corporations Act, Vital Statistics Act, Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Act, and the Freedom of Information & Privacy Act and their appropriate regulations.
  • Awareness of a broad range of other provincial and federal statutes that affect the consumer marketplace such as the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Criminal Code, Interpretations Act, Limitations Act, Sale of Goods Act, Builders Lien Act and the Civil Enforcement Act etc. The MOVES application and related interfaces and technologies.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, VISTAS, CORES, MOVES, CICS, and CATS.
  • Experience working in a high-paced call center environment.
