LM IS and User EngagementCompetition No. - S101748997Posting Date - Nov 10, 2022Closing Date - Dec 05, 2022Position Type - Full Time - Operating FundedSalary Range - $50,425 to $68,486 per yearGrade - 08Hours - 35This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).This recurring term (mid-August to mid-May annually) position offers a pro-rated salary (37,818.99 - 51,364.89 per annum) and a comprehensive benefits package which can be viewed at: Faculty & Staff Benefits.Location - Augustana Library is located in Camrose, AB.PositionThe University of Alberta Library seeks a recurring term (full-time from mid-August to mid-May every year) Information Services Specialist with a strong customer service orientation for the Augustana Library. Hours of work may include evening and weekend shifts. Augustana Library is located in Camrose, AB.Augustana Library offers an integrated service desk model for providing reference and information services, circulation/borrower services, and technology support services. The Library operates in a highly electronic environment with collections and services in support of the research, teaching and information needs of the Augustana Faculty. Reporting to the Head, Information Services & User Engagement (IS-UE), the Information Services Specialist is part of a dynamic and collaborative IS-UE team, whose mission is to find solutions for library users, while contributing to the provision of welcoming services. The Information Services Specialist works to collaborate effectively with people of diverse cultures, and with varying levels of comfort with the academic setting.Duties:

  • Provides reference and information services to students, faculty and the general public, at a service point, either in person or using electronic reference software (chat/text), e-mail or the telephone.
  • Provides circulation/borrower services, including charging out and renewal of library materials, and uses the online circulation module of the integrated library system to provide client account services; interprets and applies policies accurately and consistently; contributes to the updating and writing of policies and procedures
  • Assists users in discovery: finds information using current and emerging library discovery systems and print research tools; provides point-of-need instruction.
  • Provides support for a range of e-book and database platforms and accurately advises library users on access privileges
  • Assists clients with technology-related questions and problems, including troubleshooting hardware/software problems and initiating a course of action to provide solutions.
  • Applies policies and follows procedures that contribute to the security and safety of the library facility; opens/closes the Library
  • Participates in the development and implementation of services and operations, including special projects
Qualifications:
  • Two years post-secondary education (diploma and/or degree) required; a Library and Information Technology Diploma is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related customer service experience in providing information services in a library.
  • Familiarity and comfort with desktop software (i.e. MS Office, Google Workspace), Internet and database search techniques, and demonstrated aptitude for working in an electronic environment required.
  • Familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony, NEOS catalogue and other discipline-related electronic and print resources is desirable.
