Job Description

INSTRUCTOR - OLSON CENTRE FOR HEALTH SIMULATIONFACULTY OF HEALTH STUDIESNorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone to provide interdisciplinary instructor and faculty support to the simulation center.Reporting to the Manager, The Olson Centre For Health Simulation, the Instructor develops simulation curriculum alongside subject matter experts within the respective program areas. In addition this faculty member will facilitate and evaluate simulation scenarios. It also includes the day to day maintenance of the centre including equipment maintenance, supplies, and lab setup/take down. Being professional and understanding the standards that guide interdisciplinary simulation is paramount to success in this role. Professional accountability includes: creating and maintaining a safe confidential learning environment that is conducive to student learning, pursuing ongoing professional development (maintaining required licences and certifications), working collaboratively with interdisciplinary colleagues and participating on instructional and College-wide teams.HOW YOULL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Develop, evaluate, facilitate and debrief on interdisciplinary simulation-based learning experiences utilizing concepts of equity, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism.
  • Facilitate safe and confidential learning that supports reflective practices.
  • Assist and collaborate with faculty regarding lab set ups, equipment trouble shooting, and the utilization of simulation technology.
  • Demonstrate required knowledge related to curriculum development using best practice standards of simulation-based education.
  • Demonstrate an ability to utilize, develop, and learn the use of progressive simulation technology such as virtual simulation games, virtual reality, and 360 imaging.
  • Work directly with program area in design and development of learning outcomes in related to simulation experiences.
  • Assist in scheduling and timetabling related to lab usage by programs.
  • Provide direction and support to the instructional assistant.
  • Through evidence-based debriefing techniques, provide feedback to students on their performance according to scenario goals and related outcomes.
  • Keep simulation staff and program areas apprised of students’ progress and improvement needs when being supervised in the simulation experience, working with students on areas identified by the team as needing improvement.
  • Order and maintain inventory control of instructional resources and keeps lab organized and ensure equipment is functional (e.g. simulation mannequins, audiovisual/ technical equipment, and lab supports and supplies).
  • Provide basic technical assistance for equipment used by students and instructors.
  • Prepare Olson Centre for instruction delivery including the setting up and taking down of equipment as per program requirements.
  • Maintain tidiness of labs and supply rooms.
  • Provide maintenance or development of simulation scenario manuals and lab resources.s
  • Liaise with other post-secondary health simulations for projects, events, or learning activities.
  • Support the Olson Centre for Health Simulation Manager in providing tours for President’s Office, Executive, Board of Governors, and their internal or external guests.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelors Degree in a health related discipline.
  • Current registration in good standing in a health-related field from the respective regulatory body.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 30 days.
  • 3+ years of disciple specific related experience.
  • 3+ years experience of active teaching in a pose-secondary environment with adult learners.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
  • Previous experience in a simulation lab would be an asset.
  • Procicient use of Microsoft Office 365.

  • Experience in development of learning experience using educational technologies is an asset. (for example, virtual reality, 360 imaging, virtual gaming platforms, film recording and editing, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience working in team environment and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail when working with simulation equipment, doing lab set ups, and documentation.
  • A background of working with, or a desire to learn how to work with, simulation equipment.
  • Technological acumen and use of developer platforms would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with upholding principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism and incorporating them into educational deliveries.
  • Trauma-informed care training is an asset.
  • Some flexibility related to hours of work may be required to meet the Divisional demands for ongoing simulated based learning experiences (may include occasional weekends or evening hours).
SALARY: Reflective of what you bring AKA your education and experience.
