Job Description

INSTRUCTOR, SETTLEMENT STUDIES DIPLOMA PROGRAMFACULTY OF SKILLS AND FOUNDATIONAL LEARNINGNorQuesters are difference makers and we are searching for an energetic and experienced instructor who is dedicated to making a difference in the Settlement Studies (SETT) program. The first of its kind in Western Canada, the SETT program is designed to prepare future settlement workers for a rewarding career that supports immigrants and refugees with their transition to life in Canada. Our program features small class sizes, a work-integrated learning component, and a commitment to providing an inclusive, intercultural learning environment.   • Introduction to Settlement Work: Global Context, SETT 1000 (A02; in-person): Tuesday 8-11 am,
  • Introduction to Settlement Work: Global Context, SETT 1000 (A03; hyflex): Wednesdays 12:30-3:30 pm,
  • Family Dynamics, SETT 1030 (A02; hyflex): Tuesday, 12:30-3:30 pm.

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in in persona and hyflex environments.
  • Prepare learning materials according to college and program guidelines suitable for adult students, ensure that plans and developed materials adhere to basic standards, and prepare supplemental materials as needed.
  • Deliver the course curriculum content using Blackboard Ultra and Moodle for synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
  • Upload content to the course Moodle site.
  • Use a variety of instructional approaches including lecture, group discussion, demonstration, and group work.
  • Communicate with learners in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assess students by administering formative and summative assessment tools.
  • Maintain accurate student records and assign final grades.
  • Work as a member of a team, including liaising with program instructors and program leadership.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Master’s degree in Human Services, a Social Science discipline, or related field.
    • If your education was received internationally we recommend you obtain an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations.
  • A solid understanding of and appreciation for programs to support diverse communities.
  • Experience working in community as a front-line worker in an intercultural, service-providing setting is preferred.
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment and course work in adult education, with evidence of student-centered teaching excellence is preferred.
  • Experience with online course delivery and learner management systems (i.e., Moodle, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, PeopleSoft) and computer programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) is an asset.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 30 days.

SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience plus 11.2% in lieu of vacation. This is a casual role with excellent course assignments available throughout the year.
