We understand that local knowledge and presence are key to not only our overall business success but the economic success of the communities we work in.Career DetailsJob Title: Intermediate Mechanical DesignerNumber of Openings: 1Job Type: Contractor Minimum Level of Education: Design Diploma or Certificate from post-secondary institutionYears of Related Experience: 7+ yearsOffice Location: Edmonton, ABApplication Deadline: Until FilledPosition SummaryWe are seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Designer with extensive experience in piping design, isometric drafting, and data maintenance to lead the design team at our head office in Edmonton.The successful candidate will be responsible for executing designs within the context of a multidisciplinary design/construction team and providing technical assistance to clients for mechanical engineering design related matters.Other responsibilities include:

  • Working with our engineering firm as a Intermediate Mechanical Designer subject matter expert.
  • Working with Autodesk suite specifically AutoCAD, Plant3D, Navisworks and Inventor. Microstation, Solidworks, and CADworx is an asset.
  • Managing design aspect of Mechanical Design Engineering projects; adhering to budgets, timelines, and key deliverables.
  • Providing input on project planning, setting design direction, and informing the Project Manager of anticipated schedule and project costs.
  • Reviewing project sites to assess the condition of existing equipment, gathering information to complete designs, and walk-down work with construction personnel.
  • Providing feedback and advice regarding the technical and mechanical aspects of client projects to project leaders.
  • Preparing and reviewing designs prepared by other and designers.
  • Collaborating with other engineering disciplines and construction personnel to ensure project success.
  • Implement and enforce quality assurance process in mechanical design.
  • Conducting internal and client model reviews, including interference checking, constructability and operation/maintenance access.
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards (where applicable) and legislation.
  • Supporting management and leadership by participating in team-level performance reviews.
  • Able and willing to transfer knowledge to junior engineers, technicians, drafters, project managers, and coordinators through the regular course of business.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • 7+ years’ Industrial Design experience.
  • Diploma or Certificate in design or related field from post-Secondary institution.
  • Design, experience in the oilamp; gas, chemical, agriculture, green energy, and conventional power industries is an asset.
  • Practical experience with rotating equipment, material handling, piping design, vessel design, process design,
  • Ability to design, maintain, and review technical documentation including project execution plans, design documents, and specifications (on drawing, performance, and book).
  • Extensive knowledge of OH amp;S Act, Code, and regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction techniques and skills.
  • Has an interest in multidisciplinary work and understands the needs and requirements of other engineering disciplines.
  • Proficiency in the Canadian(where applicable)/local Engineering Codes, Standards, and Regulations such as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII Div. 1, CSA B149, API 12F, API 650, and Alberta Fire Code. Working knowledge of ASHRAE and SMACNA.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional, personable, and committed to producing high-quality work.
  • Sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
