Job Description

Intern, Impact Action Lab (IAL) (Casual, 12-month term)Alberta Innovates is seeking a graduate student to support the work of Alberta Innovates Impact Action Lab (IAL) and liaise with partners and clients of the IAL. Working collaboratively with innovation ecosystem partners, the IAL is focused on advancing the scholarship of impact, informing policy and practices. The primary objectives for the Intern, IAL, is to conduct landscape analysis, data and qualitative analysis, synthesize literature, develop impact case studies, narratives, and reports, support public facing workshops, courses and events, and increase awareness of the impact of Alberta Innovates and ecosystem clients.Are you our Intern, Impact Action Lab You would be a good fit for this position if you:Enjoy compiling, synthesising, and analyzing complex data setsAre passionate about using data to paint a picture of the impact an organization or initiative has madeAre a current undergraduate student registered at an Alberta educational institution.We are game changersAlberta Innovates is a provincially funded corporation with a mandate to deliver 21st-century solutions for the most compelling challenges facing Albertans. InnoTech Alberta offers you access to research talent, technical expertise, and unique facilities that can help accelerate technology development that serves both the private and public sector.Intrigued Here’s some more information about the position:This is an Edmonton-based, 12-month term casual employment position (up to 900 hours) for a graduate student. The successful incumbent will work closely with the Executive Director, IAL, and will be accountable for (but not limited to) the following:Assists with ongoing survey project work including design, analysis, and reportingAssists with literature reviewsSupports the development of impact case studies, narratives, and reportsUtilizes quantitative and qualitative analysis to assist the communication of impact for Alberta Innovates and ecosystem clientsSupport outreach events, schools, courses and eventsConduct literature and synthesis reviews to inform ecosystem gaps and program designConduct landscape analysis that includes environmental scans, document/data reviews, interviews with key subject matter experts, associated infographics.Qualifications;Graduate student currently enrolled at an Alberta educational institutionA strong social science/business/research background in mixed research methods (qualitative or quantitative) is considered a strong assetWorking knowledge of data visualization techniques and softwareBasic database and data management skillsStrong research analysis (including surveys and qualitative methodologies) & business focused analytical skillsExperience in completing literature reviews, landscape analysis, environmental scansExperience with SPSS and qualitative software (e.g. NVIVO) an advantageProficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)Solutions-driven and adaptableCreativity and problem-solving skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to multitask, prioritize appropriately, and manage multiple competing timelinesAbility to maintain confidentiality of informationExcellent communications (both written and oral), interpersonal and knowledge translation skillsWhy Alberta InnovatesWe offer our employees opportunities to work on projects that will expand their skill sets while witnessing the visible impacts of their efforts.
