The IRT Division recognizes the strategic importance of international relations and trade opportunities to Alberta and assumes a leadership role in helping Alberta-based businesses become aware of international opportunities and equipping them to capitalize on those opportunities. The Assistant Deputy Ministers Office (ADMO) is responsible for overseeing the entire IRT Division.Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) Support:

  • Provide ADM with support and recommendations on issues, opportunities, and challenges associated with Division operational activities and sensitive matters to support integrated, consistent, and effective Division operations.
  • Act as a broker between the Deputy Ministers office, branches and other department ADMs offices; primary contact in the ADMs absence.
  • Proactively scan division operations to identify, summarize and convey to the ADM any potential issues as well as critical context and recommendations for resolution that may inform decision making.
Role ContinuedExecutive Director/Branch Support:
  • Pro-actively facilitate actions/responses and integrated resolutions by bringing key players together and assigning responsibility to Branch Executive Directors for resolution.
  • Coordinate the Human Resource management, acts as liaison with the Public Service Commission regarding job evaluation, recruitment, FTE management and day-to-day human resource management.
  • Review and evaluate Division processes, policies, and standards across all branches to seek opportunities for synergies, integration, and improvements to enhance overall operations and improve consistency.
Communication Management:
  • Facilitate and review the flow of information between the Division Branches, ADMO, Deputy Minister (DM) and Ministers offices.
  • Manage the production of Action Request (AR) system to ensure effective processes and timely results.
  • Review ARs to ensure briefings succinctly identify the issues, meet quality standards, are consistent with other initiatives, and reflect the government/ministry policy or position.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely follow up for ARs as required.
Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Promote, develop, and maintain effective communication, relationships, and partnerships with internal and external clients to ensure appropriate and timely issues resolution.
  • Coordinate Division participation in ministry or cross ministry projects/initiatives as required.
  • Promote, develop and maintain effective communication, relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate and timely issues resolution as well as awareness of relevant trends and political sensitivities.
Leadership and Employee Development:
  • Supervise and provide guidance to ADMO executive support staff.
  • Support staff in their professional development goals by providing regular feedback and opportunities for training and stretch assignments where possible.
  • Develop staff in preparation for succession planning as required.
QualificationsUniversity graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by three years related experience.
