Job Description

REPORTS TO: Ubuntu Kinship & Circle Program ManagerSALARY RANGE: $24.46-$28.77/hour ($47 697-$56 101/year)HOURS: 37.5 hours/week including weekends and evenings to meet families’ needsJOB BACKGROUND:Connecting children and families through shared humanity.The Ubuntu CSD (Collaborative Service Delivery) Program, is an innovative approach to child and family support which leverages a network of partner agencies and Children’s Services to create customized support for children, youth, and families in North East Edmonton.Ubuntu offers a continuum of culturally aligned, community-based, family and child centered services. Collectively, with Boyle Street as the lead agency, Ubuntu is one point of access to a streamlined set of services that leverages the expertise of five networks to meet the needs of our families, children, and youth. Entitled the C5 (Collaborative Five) – Ubuntu works collaboratively with Boyle Street Community Services, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre, and Terra Centre for Teen Parents.This position is based out of the C5’s North East Hub – 14023 Victoria Trail. Professional development is provided and required in the development of the Kinship Family Connections Coordinator.JOB PURPOSE:The Ubuntu Kinship Program is seeking a Kinship Family Connections Coordinator - an integral member of the service team who is responsible advocating for the needs of the Kinship Placements on their caseload in order to ensure the safety and success of each child placed. With a strong vision of permanency from the onset of an open family file, the KFCC will be capable and prepared to seek more family connections and increase natural networks, thereby increasing long term connections and safety. The KFCC will have a strong understanding and working knowledge of Signs Of Safety and Family Finding Models and be able to utilize these model to develop family searches, family mapping, file mining, and help plan family meetings. KFCC’s also organize and facilitate Circle’s and Family Group Conferences for the children and families that Ubuntu serves, in partnership with the Oskapewis Iskwew and the Ubuntu Kinship and Circle Program Manager. .KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Organizing, Facilitating, mediating family group conferencing, as well as planning, sharing and healing circles with families. Including report writing and financial management.
  • Preparing families for the complexities of the Kinship program, while understanding of the importance of Kinship in a child’s life.
  • Report writing, meticulous organization of files to Kinship Accreditation Standards, and financial management of Kinship family needs as per Kinship policy and procedure.
  • Assisting families to complete necessary task to become an approved Kinship home.
  • Establishing strong, trusting relationships with family members while working towards an effective permanency plan for children and youth.
  • Building Ubuntu staff capacity for group facilitation, conflict resolution, family finding.
  • Assisting Kinship caregivers to build healthy, safe relationships with child/youth’s biological parents.
  • Out-of-town travel may be required
  • Evening and weekend availability is required.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating the values of accountability, reliability, respect, and creativity
  • Maintaining accurate records, files, and documentation to track permanency planning.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with CFS and community partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Degree or diploma in the Human Services Field. Candidates with extensive relevant experience will also be considered. Family Group Conference certificate or any group facilitation/mediation certification is an asset.Skills, Aptitudes, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in a highly stressful and ever changing environment
  • Must have excellent boundaries
  • Mental resiliency is key
  • Strong relationship building skills and ability to advocate for families, children and youth
  • Trained to facilitate Family Group Conferences and Family Circles
  • Trained in mediation and conflict resolution practices
  • Strengths-based approach in motivating families
  • Strong documentation skills for report writing
  • Ability to work with children and families within a range of cultural backgrounds
  • Cree or other First Peoples languages is an asset
  • Experience in Family Finding and Signs of Safety practices
  • Knowledgeable in Indigenous culture and traditions. Openness to cultural inclusion and accommodation
  • Ability to have constructive conversations with team members, and families
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a collaborative team
  • Ability Strong understanding of Kinship policy and standards
Experience:
  • Three or more years of experience working with families in the human service field is required
  • Understanding of the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act and guiding legislation
  • Knowledge of and experience with Aboriginal and multicultural communities
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Development, Toxic Stress, and the Social Determinants of Health
  • An understanding of poverty, racism, intergenerational trauma, marginalization and how these factors impact those we serve
  • Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector check), and Child and Youth Intervention Check, competed within the last 6 months, must be acquired prior to start date. Processing times may take several weeks to complete these checks. Results will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract competed within the last 6 months, with no major infractions. Results will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
  • Valid (Non-GDL or GDL for more than 3 years) Class 5 driver’s license with no major license suspensions and reliable vehicle
  • Comfortable transporting families in personal vehicle is required including some highway driving
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification
