Job Description

The company provides drinking water, wastewater and waste collection service to 6.4 million people on a daily basis; treats over 600 million gallons of water and over 450 million gallons of wastewater each day; delivers water treatment and advanced network solutions to 16,000 industrial and municipal sites; processes 55,000 tons of waste for recycling; and rehabilitates and maintains water assets for more than 4,000 municipal and industrial customers. The company is a subsidiary of Paris-based SUEZ.WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGThe duties of the Laboratory Technician are as follows, but not limited to:

  • Performs wet chemical analyses on process samples and other samples required for environmental requirements.
  • Performs air sampling according to the Alberta Stack Sampling Code.Performs field measurements and sampling on applicable processes including but not limited to anaerobic digestion, composting, and dewatering processes.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and trends testing data. Produces routine reports for internal distribution and external submission.
  • Participates in Laboratory QA/QC. Verifies that data collection and field measurements completed have a high level of QA/QC and meets Laboratory standards and takes initiative to correct any deficiencies.
  • Manages laboratory documentation and verifies it is completed accurately and timely.
  • Maintains field and analytical equipment used in the laboratory.
  • Assists with other non-routine field sample collection, preparation and analysis as required.
  • Inventories laboratory supplies routinely and makes purchasing recommendations.
  • Participates in investigations for opportunities to increase productivity through new equipment and programs or other efficiencies.
  • Cross trains with Operations group to increase understanding of plant operations.
  • Understands and promotes the Company’s, the Division’s, the Plant’s and the Department’s mission statement, values, and strategic goals.
  • Proactively promotes through example a safe work ethic, attitude, and workplace. Complies with all safety policies, standards, and procedures to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff and visitors as well as the Company’s, Client’s and Regulatory Agencies safe work objectives and requirements.
  • Maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers, management, staff in other Company departments, and client representatives. Effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely and respectful manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
  • Promotes a quality-first work ethic and attitude to provide a product that is manufactured of the highest standard achievable.
  • Maintains confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Understands/complies with and is accountable for adherence to COR quality standards in all activities.
  • Safely operates company-owned, leased, managed, or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment. The incumbent is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities.
  • Manages assigned tasks/projects within the scope of responsibility so all KPIs are achieved.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FORFormal Education Required:
  • Bachelor of Science or Technical Diploma in Environmental, Biological or Chemical Technology.
Applicable Experience Required:
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in water chemistry, anaerobic digestion chemistry, air chemistry or relevant, broad-based experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Previous work experience in a regulated and/or industrial plant environment will be considered an asset.
