Job Description

Labour Relations ConsultantJob Number: 45539If you are a highly motivated team player with a keen interest in labour relations, consider joining the Employee Relations Branch. Working in a dynamic environment, with experienced labour relations practitioners you will deal with a variety of issues on a team responsible for administering 6 Collective Agreements and interacting with 8 different Unions and Associations. The Branch values open communication, collaboration, teamwork and service excellence.With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing managers with interpretations of employment contracts, collective agreements, policies and procedures and federal and provincial legislation. Provide advice, assistance and make recommendations when dealing with conflict resolution, discipline and grievances
  • Facilitating the Dispute Resolution processes to resolve workplace disputes (e.g. grievances) and interpersonal conflicts within the Working Relationship Agreement framework
  • Conducting workplace misconduct investigations and providing recommendations on appropriate action
  • Liaising with Disability Management Consultants and operational leaders in supporting efforts with employee accommodations and/or absences under the Citys Attendance Management, Duty to Accommodate Programs and Drug and Alcohol Directives
  • Providing input and support to the collective bargaining process, where required
  • Participating in completing special projects
  • Completing other related duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Education or applied knowledge in labour relations, human resources, business administration, diversity equity and inclusion
  • Progressively responsible experience in diversified and progressive HR professional experience, including significant experience directly related to labour relations
  • Experience in representing the Employer in discipline meetings and grievance proceedings is required
  • Experience in interpreting and administering collective agreements
  • Demonstrated ability of establishing strong collaborative working relationships with clients, co-workers and unions
  • Demonstrated ability of applying an interest-based problem solving approach to dispute resolution, preferably in a multi-site unionised environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict. Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills are essential
  • Computer proficiency and experience in Google applications and Human Resources Information Systems such as PeopleSoft and Enterprise Commons are essential
