Job Description

Highlights of the jobWe are hiring up to three (3) full-time temporary (for up to 11 months in duration) Labourer 2 roles to join the Construction Service Team based out of our Edmiston Yard location in Edmonton, Alberta!The Labourer 2 is primarily responsible to provide support, assist and perform construction work along with the crew that are engaged in various Trench construction projects. This will include the construction / repair of sanitary sewer lines, catch basins, manholes, water mains, ditches, swales, outfalls, structures, etc.We are accepting applications from both current EPCOR Employees and external applicants.What you’d be responsible forAs a Labourer 2, you will be reporting to the Labour Foreman 3, and accountable for, but not limited to:

  • Striving to achieve a zero injury culture by practicing safe work habits and putting safety first in everything we do.
  • Assisting with the installation of new water, sanitary sewer and storm water service connections, including pipe fitting and service taps.
  • Participating and completing installations, replacements and rehabilitation of sanitary sewer and storm water sewer mains, including manholes, catch basins and catch basin leads.
  • Supporting the placement of shoring, timbers, struts and cages as per defined regulations and procedures.
  • Assembling and disassembling shoring equipment, shaft liner plates, trench boxes etc.
  • Participating in hand exposure of various utilities when required.
  • Setting up, removing temporary traffic control barricades, and flagging in high trafficked areas we may work in.
  • Delivering construction materials throughout the City of Edmonton as a part of a hotshot delivery system.
  • Performing routine work using a variety of equipment / tools such as power saws, torque wrenches, tubing cutters, flaring tools, picks and shovels, compressors and air tools.
  • Working according to the safety and environmental standards with respect to Federal, Provincial, EPCOR and departmental regulations, policies and procedures.
What’s required to be successfulQualifications, experience and behaviours the successful candidate will possess are:
  • Grade 12 High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in construction / repair of storm and sanitary sewer systems and water distributions or relevant experience in construction will be considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License and ability to maintain a valid EPCOR drivers permit.
  • A Driver Abstract may be required.
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of sewer and water lines.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions and meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work performed.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions in English, and knowledge of reading work from plans and specifications.
  • You have a strong commitment to safety and have the ability to take an active role in tasks assigned and see them through to completion.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete, maintain and be 100% proficient in our Construction Competency Passport Program.

You have strong commitment to safety and have the ability to work in a busy and stressful environment.
