Job Description

Title: Leisure Centre SupervisorDepartment: RecreationImmediate Supervisor: Core Real Estate GroupRate of Pay: TBDHours of work: Approximately 20 hours per week.This position functions as a 20 - 30 hour per week job for the months of September – March.For the months of June, July and August this position is 30 - 35 hours per week.Job SummaryThe Supervisor oversees the delivery of lifeguarding, instructional services and staffing, and assists in the administration, planning, organization and operation of the Leisure Centre. Performance requires ability to work independently with initiative and discretion within established guidelines. Responsibility for coordinating and providing guidance on all aspects of program development, planning, implementation and evaluation. Staffing oversight includes recruitment, hiring, onboarding, evaluation, payroll administration, and performance management. This position is accountable for ensuring the recreation facility offers a program mix that meets the needs of the community; planning and implementing strategies that enhance existing programs and increase variety to attract a broad range of customers.The Supervisor is an effective and proactive team member whose contributions assist in the achievement of WRA-HOA objectives.Organizational StatusThe Association manages the delivery of community recreational services, including outdoor rinks, basketball court, tennis court, and playgrounds; and the care and maintenance of the Leisure Centre.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating the administration, planning, organization and operation of the recreational services
  • Oversee the hiring and scheduling of staff; plans, assigns, trains, directs and monitors staff duties, provide input to Core Real Estate Group for employee job descriptions and submit payroll data for all staff members.
  • Oversee the delivery of lifeguarding and instructional services
  • Oversight of daily pool operations.
  • Provide strategic directive to and supervision of subordinates (lifeguards/ staff)
  • Ensure knowledge of and compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as all other relevant legislation, policies and procedures related to the safe operation of the facility
  • Perform lifeguarding and program instructional services
  • Maintain records of attendance and monitor fob access into the centre.
  • Receive and respond to questions and concerns from patrons; identify issues and resolve problems or refer to Core Real Estate Group as appropriate.
  • Responsible for filling gaps in lifeguard and swim instructor schedule
  • Attend and participate in meetings of the Board and with Core Real Estate Group
  • Oversee staffing requirements in alignment with the leisure centre budget and adjust to ensure compliance with budgeted staffing expenses.
  • Perform maintenance/janitorial duties including, but not restricted to: cleaning and disinfecting, pool chemistry tests, vacuuming, backwashing, chemical balancing, pool fouling clean- up, and facility cleaning.
  • Encourage a harmonious working relationship amongst all employees.
  • Assists with the WRA HOA special events as needed.
  • Provides monthly reports on work completed, spending, and budget compliance.
  • Consistently and effectively communicate with residents regarding WRA HOA events, news items, and updates. This includes, but is not limited to email, Facebook and other social media sites, the HOA website, and any other electronic or physical communication mediums.
Required Education/ Work Experience
  • Minimum of a Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Possession of:
  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification (Lifesaving Society)
  • Aquatic Supervisor Training or Aquatic Management Training (Lifesaving Society)
  • Aquatic Professional or Operator Certification (ORFA, NSPF)
  • Water Safety Instructor certification (Red Cross)
  • Aquatic First Aid and CPR and CPR C and AED Certificate, Emergency Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogens, (obtain within 60 days of hire)
  • Drivers license
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor including the management of pool staff
  • Must become proficient within 30 days of hire in the use of fob programming for access to the centre, use of the website and email communication to community members
  • Completion of a two-year Diploma or a Degree in Recreation Administration, Sports/Fitness Administration, Physical Education, or a discipline that includes training in program development is an asset.

  • Demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage change and direct multiple employees.
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills to interact with management staff, subordinates, and members of the public. These skills are required to represent the WRA HOA and maintain its prestige and image as well as to provide direction and leadership within.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and negotiation skills in a complex environment.
