Job Description

REPORTS TO: Ubuntu Program ManagerSALARY RANGE: $47,697-$56,101 ($24.46-$28.77/hour)HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM, 37.5 hours/weekJOB BACKGROUND:Connecting children and families through shared humanity.The Ubuntu CSD (Collaborative Service Delivery) Program is an innovative approach to child and family support which leverages a network of partner agencies and Children’s Services to create customized support for children, youth, and families in Northeast Edmonton.Ubuntu offers a continuum of culturally aligned, community-based, family and child centered services. Collectively, with Boyle Street as the lead agency, Ubuntu is one point of access to a streamlined set of services that leverages the expertise of five networks to meet the needs of our families, children, and youth. Entitled the C5 (Collaborative Five) – Ubuntu works collaboratively with Boyle Street Community Services, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre, and Terra Centre for Teen Parents.This position is based out of the C5’s North East Hub – 14023 Victoria Trail.Job Purpose:Collaborate with families, community supports, CS partners, and the kinship team to create and maintain permanency plans that engage the four domains of permanency to best serve children long term.

Cultural Permanency
  • LCC will work with children and their families to create and maintain a cultural plan that meets the unique cultural needs of each child.
Relational Permanency
  • LCC will implement circles, FGCs, family finding, mobility mapping, and other tools to ensure that children have strong, meaningful connections.
Home and Physical Permanency
  • The LCC works closely with their CS partner and the kinship team to identify caregivers who can provide a home and unconditional love to PGO children.
Legal Permanency
  • Permanent guardianship has been granted or is likely to be granted. Permanency should be addressed early and often, however, after permanent guardianship has been granted, cultural, relations, and physical permanency should be the focus.
Additional Expectations and Possible Accreditations Standards:LCC will:
  • Work in collaboration with CS partners, the C5, and all relevant community resources.
  • Complete and upload casenotes within 24 hours of contact.
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly STMs.
  • Ensure that progress, goals, and tasks are accurately documented.
  • Continuously family find- including file mining.
  • Organize and facilitate circles with families, religious/spiritual leaders, and community members and caregivers to create realistic cultural and relational plans- this will include the scheduling of visits.
  • Attend all relevant trainings and share information with the team (including all staff).
  • Present permanency plan progress to manager for all files monthly.
  • Understand and advocate for permanency perspectives at all points of a file.
  • Understand An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families and advocate for its administration at all points of a file lifecycle.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
  • Degree/Diploma or equivalent. Candidates with extensive relevant experience will also be considered
Skills, Aptitudes, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, ever-changing, often demanding, sometimes traumatizing environment
  • Able to work effectively as a team as well as independently
  • Flexible and adaptable to change

  • Ability to work with children and families from a range of cultures
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Three or more years working with families and experience conducting home visits and case management
  • Understanding of Children and Family services and guiding legislation
  • Knowledge of and experience with Aboriginal and multicultural communities, particularly how they have been affected by the child welfare system, is essential
  • Experience working in and with partnerships and across sectors
  • Knowledge of and experience working with local community resources in Clareview/North East Edmonton
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Development, Toxic Stress, and the Social Determinants of Health
  • An understanding of poverty, racism, and marginalization and how and why it impacts those we serve
  • An understanding of, and preferably experience with, the principles of Wraparound and Signs of Safety models
  • Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector check), and Child and Youth Intervention Check, competed within the last 6 months, must be acquired prior to start date. Processing times may take several weeks to complete these checks. Results will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract competed within the last 6 months, with no major infractions. Results will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
  • Valid (Non-GDL or GDL for more than 3 years) Class 5 driver’s license with no major license suspensions and reliable vehicle
  • Comfortable transporting families in personal vehicle is required including some highway driving
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification
