Click Here: The Gibson WaySummaryReporting to the E&I technical Lead at the Edmonton facility, the Measurement Technician is responsible for calibrating measuring tools and machines, following applicable rules and standards established by the company, governement agencies, and accepted industry standards, and conducting routine checks and periodic testing on all measuring equipment, and performing other related duties.Accountabilities
  • Daily Checks on segment line balance for Edmonton T&P systems.
  • Daily communication with operations, maintenance and control center as to operational problems and where or what the tasks are for the day.
  • Field representative between Gibson Energy and third-party shippers.
  • Monitor Product QC when calibrating meters and notify stakeholders of any deviations from normal.
  • Troubleshoots metering problems.
  • Complete work orders to have any measurement instruments repaired or purchased.
  • Meter proving and calibration on all the pipeline meter run manifold and rail rack systems and enter accurate data on each calibration report and into each site flow computer.
  • Monitor Temperature and Pressure Txs during meter calibration.
  • Repair and reprove meters as required.
  • Meter and strainer must be pulled for inspection if the meter factor deviates +/-0.50% or consistently trends in one direction after several calibrations.
  • Provide proving reports for each meter calibration and send them to the measurement specialist to verify accuracy.
  • Make volume adjustments based on accumulator readings. Between each calibration if the meter factor deviates greater than +/- 0.25% and send them to the measurement specialist.
  • Maintain the Proving equipment to meet Gibson Energy and API specs (i.e. water draw the provers).
  • Maintain prover and prover trucks mechanically to meet DOT Standards.
  • Keep housekeeping to high standards.
  • Review proving procedures annually (MOC required for revisions) MOC must be reviewed by the measurement specialist.
  • Maintain Inventory checklist for metering parts and order as required.
  • Ensure that Gibson Energy meters and related equipment are traceable, calibrated, maintained and improved upon to ensure regulatory, industry and company compliance.
  • Maintain the operation and maintenance of associated proving equipment
  • Advise Operations of new and appropriate measurement products.
  • Coordinate and deliver measurement training for field personnel.
  • Perform measurement-related projects as necessary.
  • Work with operators and administration staff to resolve metering issues.
  • Prioritize measurement concerns.
  • Ensure applicable checks and necessary documentation is completed as per contractual agreements and regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in EPAP and various audits as required as well maintain measurement drawings.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Journeyperson Instrumentation/Electrical Certification or/and Certified Engineering Technologist.
  • 3 -5 years of pipeline measurement-related experience with a thorough understanding of industry measurement practices.
  • Ability to interface with field operations staff and business unit representatives to resolve issues in a safe and expedient manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, innovation and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to solve problems effectively.
  • Ability to work and set priorities in a multi-task environment.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in the use of PC’s and business software, including Excel, Word, Maximo and SCADA.
  • Possession of the required safety certificates of the industry: H2S, WHMIS, First Aid, etc.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • This job is subject to pre-employment Drug and Alcohol testing as outlined in Gibson Energy’s Drug & Alcohol policy as well as pre-employment Functional Fitness Testing.
  • This position will be approximately 80% Field tasks and 20% Administrative tasks.
  • This position requires overtime coverage with an on call rotation.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces as well as climb ladders and stairs
  • Standing for frequent periods and sitting occasionally, including driving
  • Occasional bending and twisting is required as is prolonged neck positioning
  • Lower extremity movements – kneeling, crouching and squatting
  • Frequent upper extremity movements (elbows, forearm, wrist, handgrip), with some above shoulder work
  • Lifting up to 50lbs
  • Carrying up to 50lbs, pushing up to 30lbs
