Job Description

AFL manufactures, engineers and installs the fiber optic products and equipment that communications providers need to provide quad-play solutions to their customers.Under the direction of the Operations Manager/Field Service Manager, the MxU Installer is responsible for installing GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Networks) wiring in Multi-dwelling Units (MDU Residential) and Multi-tenant Units (MTU Business). This installation may be outside plant cable placing, inside wiring or a combination of both.Provide unparalleled customer service excellenceEnsure diligence with construction site safety through safety orientations with Site Supervisors as required based on job siteInstall residential and business Fiber lines from Main Equipment Rooms (MER) to each individual suitePlace cables from outside to inside via aerial or underground pathsOperate power tools in a safe manner, respectful of client’s propertyMaintain excellent working condition of Test EquipmentConduct Optical Power Meter testing of fiber connections;Troubleshoot technical issues swiftly and accurately;Work indoors and outdoors at customer locations and in manholes as required;Responsible for administrative tasks, including: expense reports, Web Tracker (timesheet) entries, Company vehicle mileage tracking;Maintain Company Vehicles to ensure good working condition, cleanliness and adherence to regular maintenance schedule;Help build and maintain positive relations within the teamProtect organizations’ values by keeping information confidentialEnhance organizational reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishmentAdhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFLEmployee may be asked to perform other ancillary or related duties as required, to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.Knowledge and Experience RequirementPreferred Technical Knowledge & Experience

  • Telecommunications experience related to inside or outside plant preferred
  • Experience in building construction trades such as framing, electrical wiring preferred
  • Cabling and wiring experience in fields such as structured wiring, alarming wiring or equivalent preferred
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license preferred. May be required to operate Company Vehicle and meet AFL’s internal Motor Vehicle policy
Required Knowledge & Experience
  • Passion for customer service
  • Strong mechanical, technical and analytical ability
  • Ability to do fine, precise work with their hands
  • Ability to work aloft on extension ladders or step ladders
  • Proficient in operating hand and power tools, and test equipment
  • Normal color vision to work with color-coded wiring
  • Ability to effectively handle both favorable and unfavorable customer interactions
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing and conversational)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Successful criminal background check is required

  • Work hours may vary to accommodate client schedule (early/late morning, evening, weekend and statutory holidays)
