Job Description

Neighbourhood Resource Coordinator - Recreation Officer II permanentJob Number : 44800A Neighbourhood Resource Coordinators role is very diverse. You need to be a coach, a consultant, a communicator, and a problem solver for communities. You will be providing asset based, place based community, organizational, and program development services as part of the Neighbourhood Services Team. If you are skilled in collaborating with community groups and results focused, this is a highly autonomous role that gives you the freedom to leave your creative mark on Edmontons Communities.Some of the responsibilities of a Neighbourhood Resource Coordinator are to:

  • Identify community needs, capacities, assets, and support local leadership development
  • Build effective working relations and provide organization development support to emerging and established community based groups related to the development and delivery of recreation opportunities and community building efforts
  • Support and partner with community stakeholders to achieve mutually agreed upon outcomes
  • Facilitate community groups to identify and meet their community and parkland development needs through strategy development (ie. needs assessments, project proposals, business cases, public involvement plans) resource development and partnerships
  • Continuously anticipate, analyze, and respond to arising recreation and community related challenges and opportunities
  • Support community groups and partners to remain involved, mobilized, energized, and responsive
  • Work on multiple community and multi-disciplinary work teams and promote a one city approach to challenges faced by a neighbourhood or geographic area
  • Provide resource information including grant programs, funding opportunities, and program support for community ideas, projects, and initiatives
Qualifications :
  • University graduation in recreation administration, community development, human ecology, public health or related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the field of asset based community development with demonstrated competency in community/organizational development and the provision of information/referrals
  • Project management and needs assessment experience
  • Knowledge of the theory and philosophy of community development including Asset and Placed based development
  • Experience working with multicultural and high needs groups
  • Strong organizational and communication skills(verbal and written)
  • Grant application and proposal writing skills
  • Demonstrated comfort in working with community members, senior management, the media, and City Council
  • Proficient in the Google suites of products and Apps is required; knowledge of Microsoft Suites is an asset
  • Must be resourceful, creative, and collaborative along with strong analytical and group facilitation skills
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
