Job Description

IPEX is one of North America’s leading providers of advanced plastic piping systems. Our mission is to shape a better tomorrow by connecting people with water and energy.We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Machine Operator in our PVC extrusion plant facility located in Edmonton, AB. This position will work 12-hour rotating shifts (days and nights) on a 2/2/3 continental schedule.Job SummaryWe are seeking an energetic individual with a keen eye to detail and great communication skills for this role. The successful candidate will focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.Principal Responsibilities

  • With training, assist in the line operation of extruders and associated equipment
  • Follow and review all plant policies and practices to ensure safety, quality, service and cost objectives are met
  • Ensure work area is clean and tidy prior to any rotation or shift end. Responsible for performing duties in a safe and practical manner and ensure that your workspace is free of hazards
  • Package pipe in accurate pallet sizes and quantities and document production. Strap crates tightly and neatly.
  • Inspect product to ensure product meets standard before packaging. Ensure packaging has appropriate label, weight, quantity, and quality.
  • Use basic hand tools including pneumatic nail guns, saws, micrometers, calipers and other measuring devices. Operate forklift.
  • Identify, transfer, and load material for production; report scrap in compliance with work instructions. Inspect and report potential unsafe or hazardous conditions
  • Maintain acceptable housekeeping, environmental and safe working conditions
  • Help implement and sustain Manufacturing Excellence program (including 5S program).
  • Provide 100% of your support and commitment towards IPEX’s objective of successfully implementing and maintaining 5S System for the PVC plant.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 level reading, writing and mathematical skills, including working knowledge of the imperial and metric measurement systems
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred; plastics experience is an asset
  • Experience using basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, drills, hammers, saws, nail gun, etc).
  • Previous forklift experience is required; current license is an asset
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  • A self-starter with good interpersonal skills coupled with an eagerness to learn; must be able to communicate in English both written and verbally
  • Good teammate with a proven ability to contribute to and foster a positive team environment. Must exhibit a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices is necessary, along with a basic understanding of the MES system
  • Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts, days and nights (8:00 am to 8:00 pm; and 8:00 pm to 8:00 am)
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work at heights and work in confined spaces
  • Requires good mobility and involves considerable routine walking, standing for long periods, bending, and lifting up to a maximum of 50 lbs
  • The use of hand tools
  • Fast-paced environment where a considerable amount of sensory attention is required
