Job Description

MED Medicine DepartmentCompetition No. - A100649141Closing Date - Will remain open until filled.This position has an end date of Oct 31, 2023.Division of Preventive MedicineThe Housing for Health Project focuses on improving two mixed income and one affordable housing development and their surrounding neighbourhoods in Edmonton, Leduc, and Whitecourt, Alberta. The project is supported through a 60-month multi-sector partnership between the University of Alberta, Alberta-based real estate developers, and a not-for-profit affordable housing organization. Improvements include the built environment and associated programming of the three new residential developments targeted at aging populations and the project is examining potential impacts on active living, healthy eating and social connections of residents.We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) to work on the following:Undertake and oversee an evaluation research project measuring changes in healthy behaviour and social connections of residents within and around three new housing developments that are being designed to promote healthy living and social interaction. This project includes surveys and direct measures of physical activity (i.e., accelerometers and Global Positioning Systems) to establish baseline physical activity, healthy eating and social connections, as well as longitudinal changes over time. The PDF’s main responsibilities will include literature reviews, data processing and analysis, and manuscript and report writing, as well as communicating and collaborating with the study investigators, Research and Evaluation Coordinator/Manager, and pilot development coordinators and research assistants. Additional responsibilities may include: recruiting participants; preparing ethics amendments; data collection via surveys and measurements; training staff; communicating with site managers, office staff and/or participants; other dissemination activities; and other duties as needed. The PDF may also assist in grant proposal writing, supervision of graduate students, and mentoring of study coordinators and research assistants.The PDF is required to have completed their PhD within the past 5-years in an area related to health science, public health, or equivalent, with extensive experience and training in quantitative epidemiologic methods and at least some knowledge of the association of the built environment with healthy living. Experience with primary data collection, quantitative longitudinal and survey methods, reliability and validity analyses, and conducting built environment and healthy living research is preferred. The PDF should have strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to a variety of audiences and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. The applicant should enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.The PDF’s primary appointment will be at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, Canada; however, the PDF is anticipated to travel to sites around Alberta to undertake data collection and meetings as needed.The PDFs salary is $50,000/year plus benefits and the contract will end October 31, 2023. A higher salary is possible based on other previous Post-Doctoral Fellowship experience. Pending project and PDF success in garnering additional grant funds, there is also the possibility of extending the position beyond October 31, 2023.To Apply: Apply online with
