This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person.Department summaryBased in the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Education, the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (CMASTE) is a long-standing educational research and development centre that specializes in the synthesis of research, knowledge translation and outreach. The purpose of the Centre is to promote research and development in mathematics, science and technology education in Canada and beyond, achieved through an academic collective at the University of Alberta who provide a broad range of stakeholder groups a uniquely favourable environment for productive and significant collaborative work.Position summaryCMASTE is inviting applications for a full-time, 8-month postdoctoral position which will support curriculum development on the Scholarship of Pedagogy and Application of Research Knowledge(SPARK) program. The SPARK program is a professional learning program for faculty members that promotes active participation, collaboration and reflection across the career-span to enhance effective instructional practice, classroom interactions and assessment. The initial SPARK program was developed with a focus on engineering education. The postdoctoral fellow will adapt the current SPARK program to Natural & Applied Sciences (Engineering, Nursing, and Science) within a French language environment for Campus Saint-Jean.Duties

  • Adapting SPARK program to be applicable to teaching and learning in Natural & Applied Sciences.
  • Identifying and/or creating professional learning resources on postsecondary teaching and learning in the natural and applied sciences in alignment with the SPARK program objectives.
  • Coordinate with the cross-disciplinary steering committee to ensure needs are being addressed through the new program.
  • Coordinate with the French-language consultant and translator to include French-language readings and podcasts.
  • Collaborate with CMASTE staff to ensure project completion on time and within budget.
Minimum QualificationsQualified candidates will have completed a doctoral program (within the past five years) in a relevant discipline within natural and applied sciences education. They will have background in, or commitment to, teacher education or curriculum design and implementation. Teaching experience in K-12 and/or post-secondary in Canadian contexts is required with preference given to French bilingual candidates. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Experience with design principles for curriculum development and/or online course delivery.
  • Understanding of professional learning models.
  • Proficiency with technology tools like Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Flexibility to work remotely and face-to-face when needed.
  • Collaborative skills and working as a team member.
Preferred Qualification
  • French bilingual is considered an asset.
