Job Description

Program Coordinator - Gardens up to 11 monthsJob Number : 42592The Pop-Up Community Garden Pilot program was established as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic to address urban food growing opportunities. This position will implement, plan and deliver the program. The Program Coordinator - Gardens will provide assistance to the Program Lead on projects and initiatives as they relate to community gardening. This role will also be responsible for researching and delivering content for educational programs, websites, social media, and promotional material.With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Support program planning, including the coordination of stakeholder input on guidelines and operational resourcing
  • Coordinate the procurement of supplies and monitor the program budget
  • Implement programs and initiatives based on work plans
  • Intake, review and notify community groups about the status of applications for resources
  • Provide support to successful applicants throughout the season
  • Prepare and distribute marketing and communications resources according to the Communications and Engagement Plan
o Support the development and delivery of information-sharing and educational opportunities, including presentations, workshops and trainingo Research and develop content for educational programs, websites, social media, and promotional materials
  • Respond to customer and stakeholder inquiries. • Creates maps and other geospatial resources using Google Maps
  • Support the celebration of beautification and gardening efforts in the city
  • Supervise seasonal staff, delegate work and monitor task completion
  • Provide input on program development, strategic planning and policy development as needed • Manage databases and analyze key performance indicators
  • Provide status reports on program deliverables and activities
  • Support new projects, initiatives and team events as required
Qualifications :
  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation, Leisure, Physical Education or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Program Delivery
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Level C required Considerable experience and knowledge of the delivery of programming
  • Ability to provide leadership to staff and volunteers
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders, supervisors, co-workers and the public
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently effectively with little or no supervision
  • Must have the ability to work a variety of shifts which may include evenings and weekends
  • Ability to deal effectively with potentially stressful situations
  • Ability to work both in an office and outdoor environment in variable working conditions
  • Strong knowledge of native plants and is confident with identifying trees and shrubs is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication and customer services skills, both written and verbal Excellent organizational skills to track and record program data information
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent).
  • Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
