Job Description

Program Specialist - Sports Coach OngoingJob Number : 44136The Community Recreation and Culture Branch is looking for dynamic, energetic, professional and qualified individuals to instruct Ready2 and Learn to Play Sports Programs for children, youth and adults. If you are an instructor and want to share your passion for badminton, volleyball, basketball, soccer, pickleball then this is the position for you!As a Sports Instructor, you will use your leadership skills to:

  • Instruct one or more of the following Ready2 and Learn to Play programs; Volleyball, Basketball, Pickleball and Badminton across City Recreation Centres.
  • Deliver and lead group instruction in the time frame and manner that is determined by the class description
  • Ensure classes are progressive, challenging and can adapt to varying levels of participant skills and abilities
  • Encourage patrons to improve on their progress in class
  • Maintain a high level of enthusiasm throughout the class
  • Promote the benefits of healthy living and physical activity
  • Provide outstanding customer service to participants and patrons
  • Sub classes and attend professional development workshops as needed
  • Ensure gymnasium spaces are kept tidy and orderly before, during and after classes
  • Maintain program statistics, such as attendance, evaluations and incident reports
  • Attend training as required
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications :
  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED
  • Current enrolment in or completion of a post secondary program in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Personal Fitness Training or a Related Degree or Diploma is an asset
  • Experience coaching or instructing small and large groups is required
  • NCCP - Community/Fundamental/Developmental sport specific certification or equivalent is an asset
  • Ability to teach progressive sport skill development
  • Knowledge and experience in working with children, youth and adults
  • Excellent customer service & communication skills
  • Ability to lead effectively and work within a team environment
  • Knowledge in High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development and Canadian Sport for Life Fundamentals is considered an asset
  • Valid First Aid, CPR and AED Certification
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
