You will have lots of ideas, a fresh approach to telling stories and a keen desire to ensure our programming is timely, relevant and reflects the news our audiences need to know every afternoon.You know how to gather, write, edit, and package content for current affairs radio, and you thrive on the pressure of reporting on breaking news from the field. You are passionate about championing stories and sources from Edmonton’s under-represented communities, and you know that every story needs to include a range of perspectives.As someone with a deep working knowledge of Alberta, you understand its political landscape and its energy-driven economy, and your work highlights how these issues affect the day-to-day lives of the people who live here.In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.What you’ll do:

  • Pitch and produce original story ideas for current affairs programming that deepen CBC Edmonton’s community connections, elevate a range of voices and reflect the day’s top local news
  • Conduct research and interviews, gather and edit audio, write radio scripts, and package content.
  • Regularly present stories live on radio, from within the studio and out in the field, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience’s understanding of issues.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.
What you bring:
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong story ideas.
  • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Edmonton.
  • A proven work ethic and a positive, team-first attitude.
  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Advanced knowledge of current affairs radio programming, including familiarity with audio gathering and editing.
  • Experience presenting stories live on-air.
  • Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms (TV, radio, digital).
  • Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
  • Ability to choose relevant, audience focused stories, which reflect issues being discussed by the public.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company; other classes considered an asset.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent, related experience.
