The designer will provide creative designs that will typically involve structural steel and concrete structures. The designer will review plans and confer with internal stakeholders to meet project specifications, complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets.Other responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage design teams on structural and multi-disciplined projects for operating industrial facilities.
  • Responsible for visiting operating industrial facilities to develop project designs and coordinate with clients and contractors through project completion.
  • Visualize the project design configuration and goals, and then drive the team to achieve those goals through innovative and effective designs.
  • Prepare creative design drawings and models of industrial structures, process modules, and skids, materials handling equipment, access platforms, and fall protection systems, lifting devices and rigging.
  • Take on challenges of complex designs within project schedules and budget constraints.
  • Work within multi-discipline engineering and construction teams to execute projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Develop, refine and maintain multiple CAD standards and implement them across a multi-disciplined group or project team.
  • Prepare cost estimates for engineering deliverables and project capital cost.
  • Meet with clients in their facilities to develop and determine project requirements, collect required information, make field measurements, develop designs, initiate fabrication and construction and turn over the completed project.
  • Work with our fabrication and construction group to optimize designs for maximum functionality and constructability across disciplines.
  • Structural: Design of structural steel and concrete structures for industrial facilities.This includes equipment supports, access structures, mechanized structures, skids, materials handling equipment, lifting studies, lifting devices, safety equipment, specialty equipment and tools, and foundations.
  • Civil: Site layout and development, earthwork, drainage design, ponds, containment systems, and utilities.
  • Architectural: Design of industrial buildings, building envelopes, building code requirements, occupancy classifications, and fire separations.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • A degree in structural engineering and/or a certificate in design and in structural technology from a technical college is required.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in the preparation, drafting, and design of engineering drawings using appropriate standards for structures including structural steel and concrete with industrial facility is required.
  • Working knowledge of design software’s related to structural steel and concrete.
  • Experience in Structural detailing is required.
  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD and Micro station in 2D and 3D design environment to produce the deliverables for structural steel and concrete structures.
  • Knowledge of CAD standards and quality assurance systems to deliver a high quality product.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and constructability issues.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Experience in SolidWorks is an asset.
