Job Description

Settlement Practitioner Zonal OutreachPermanent Part timeENZO Program InfoTHE CHALLENGECollaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide community referrals and settlement resources, information and orientation support to newcomers. Promotes settlement programs to newcomers, community partners, and general mainstream community. The Edmonton Zonal Outreach is team is based out of Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) and works together to reach out and connect more newcomers to anglophone and francophone settlement agencies in Millwoods and South East Edmonton.THE OPPORTUNITY

  • Reach out and connect newcomer to essential free services and resources
  • Respond to the Helpline calls by providing information/referrals to newcomers in a culturally sensitive way
  • Human-centred approach with people to connect and resource newcomers that support their settlement journey.
  • Participate in community resource activities and events, promoting, sharing and informing community, agencies and newcomers of the program and services
  • Gather and share community information and resources about services, programs, support and resources that support newcomers access free services
  • Collect relevant data and update outreach activity details in Zonal Database
  • Stay updated on zonal stakeholders and community resources
  • Distribute zonal outreach resources among appropriate stakeholder groups
  • Activate social media generated by Zonal Coordinator
  • Attend Zonal Meetings and provide monthly, quarterly and annual outreach activity reports to Zonal Coordinator
  • Work as a team with the Zonal Outreach Coordinator and other Zonal
What It TakesTo excel in this role, the Settlement Practitioner must provide a clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, results within 30 days of offer. Mobility and travel generally anywhere in the city and specifically in the Millwoods and South East Edmonton zones, ensuring you are physically present in the community spaces such as libraries, recreation centres and schools, and work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.While all backgrounds will be considered, the most helpful history will involve applied experience, knowledge, training and education in Human Sciences and outreach. Additional experiences supporting community members of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds and worldviews, advocating / activating individuals and families to navigate local, provincial and federal systems.Attributes and Characteristics
  • Functional knowledge of Immigration Policies, processes and procedures
  • In-depth knowledge or lived experience of Canadian Social Support Systems
  • Engaging facilitating and presenter- first-hand experience presenting to immigrants’/refugee populations and mainstream organizations is preferred
  • Well-developed understanding of the complexities of immigrant settlement issues; including housing, health, employment, and family dynamics
  • Fluency in English and or French is a must and if you are fluent is in other languages, we consider that an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to perform and deliver, interculturally competent, and strong commitment and passion to providing excellent service to Newcomers
  • Microsoft Word Suite savvy (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and adept at learning and working with new technology, software and databases
  • A great gracious contributor and learner, that is self-aware, committed to mastery, shows integrity, and perseveres.
