Job Description

Your Opportunity:The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized adult services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant and trauma inpatient programs as well as a vast number of ambulatory clinics. This position is part of the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program responsible for the adult patient population and will support patients specifically who are within the emergency department team, concentrating services with the adult social work service area, but will also have opportunities to learn and provide services to other clinical areas on the hospital campus as indicated. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:Completion of bachelors degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).Additional Required Qualifications:Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification is required. Possess experience working in emergency or critical care. This position supports both the UAH Adult Emergency Department, experience with trauma informed care and adult Addictions and Mental Health are required. Possess proven communication skills to work cooperatively and with the health care team members, patients and their families in a fast paced environment. Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills are necessary. Ability to work with various computer programs is an asset. Your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. Must be highly motivated, confident, and enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude whose work aligns with AHS Values. Able to act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Able to utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. You can work independently and as a part of the team creating strong, effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are a reliable worker who uses time effectively.Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience in acute care setting with 1-2 years experience. Experience working in an electronic medical record, connect care, and net care preferred. Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative partnerships and relationships.
