The Summer Student - Recreation Therapy Aide ensures residents are provided with appropriate activity and leisure services in accordance with current recreation practices. These programs may be carried out individually or in group sessions and may be within the facility setting or at other locations within the community.Areas of Responsibility
  • Under the direction of the Recreation Therapist, organizes activities that cover social, physical, cognitive and spiritual spectrums to assist residents to develop interpersonal relationships, socialize effectively, and develop confidence to participate in group activities.
  • Regulates content of programs or adapts activities in accordance with residents’ capabilities, needs and interests.
  • Encourages residents to participate in exercise and group sports.
  • Assists with organizing and coordinating special outings.
  • Complies with all safety requirements and organizational policies and procedures all the time for the safety of residents and quality resident service.
  • Demonstrates understanding of residents as individuals with desires and preferences.
  • Develops and maintains good rapport with residents, staff, families and volunteers.
  • Prepares for and cleans up after programs.
  • Porters residents to and from programs.
Canada Summer Jobs Basic Eligibility Criteria: Employee must:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status.
  • Currently enrolled full time at an educational institution, and will return to school full time in the upcoming academic year.

  • Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize.
