Job Description

Job IntroductionReporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Plant Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the factory, for managing/administration of the production management systems, and for production scheduling systems, shipping / receiving / sequencing operations in a cost-efficient manner. The Plant Manager is also responsible for leading and participating in continuous improvement efforts and cost reduction activities.The Plant Manager will: · Execute production

  • Establish standard work procedures and task matrices and schedule team members and equipment to meet all deadlines on-time and on-budget.
  • Make recommendations for labour requirements based on forecasted and scheduled demand.
  • Develop and implement procedures to maintain inventory levels at optimum levels and generate inventory tracking reports.
  • Create plans for efficient use of materials, equipment, supplies and employees.
  • Review manufacturing costs and product quality and modify production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of the factory.
· Collaborate with leadership
  • Develop and implement strategic and operational goals and objectives for the plant to ensure customer satisfaction with both delivery and quality of product.
  • Work closely with sales and shipping to ensure successful on-time delivery.
· Drive continuous improvement
  • Analyze and identify opportunities to reduce process variation, improve process capabilities, and optimize process performance to meet or exceed quoted productivity targets.
  • Lead and drive a continuous improvement mindset, engaging and challenging the team for optimization suggestions, including improved safety, productivity, and quality performance.
  • Perform and lead special projects in support of the business objectives.
· Ensure optimal performance
  • Monitor equipment to ensure optimal performance and initiate appropriate action with supporting departments and vendors/contractors to ensure equipment availability and optimized performance.
  • Guarantee the performance measures are on track with the Key Operating Indicators (KOI'S)
· Lead a team.
  • Mentor and train teammates; delivering clear and specific performance feedback and reviews that accelerate professional growth.
  • Ensure the team is up-to-date and committed to following health and safety regulations.
  • Establish and enforce standards and procedures in compliance with legal regulations and work with the Joint Health and Safety Reps to implement improvement initiatives.
The Plant Manager has: * The experience.
  • A degree in Business Management related study, Project Management or a minimum of 5 years management experience preferably in a Lean manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of both.
  • A PMP accreditation would be a strong asset.
  • Computer literate, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
  • A clear understanding of core manufacturing principles, including metrics management, capacity planning, financial budgeting, labour planning, scheduling, material flow/inventory management, lead time, and waste reduction.
  • A good working understanding of the Nova Scotia Health & Safety Act and regulations.
