Job Description

Position Title: Farm of the Future InternPosition Type: Temporary - Full-TimeRequisition ID: 13020This temporary full-time role will commence in April 2022.Summary of PositionThe technical intern must be able to operate all farm equipment on the farm. Critical jobs will be operating the potato planter, crop sprayer and potato harvester. The person must be executing all the other operations and general farm jobs when required. The person will support and perform farm equipment maintenance and modifications with help of farm’s Technical Lead. Under the supervision of the Technical Lead, the technical intern will be responsible of instructing and explaining daily task to general farm staff and to ensure that the tasks are performed to satisfaction.QualificationsMinimum to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual must regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Candidate must have the knowledge to operate farm equipment, a valid (truck) driver’s license to operate heavy equipment and pesticide applicator license or willing to write exams to have them.Summary of Qualifications

  • Experienced in operation farm machinery.
  • Computer literate, experience in operation agricultural GPS system.
  • Knowledge of machinery and emerging agriculture technologies.
  • Passion to learn new technologies and develop new skills.
  • Experience with potato production is an asset.
  • Attention to detail, dependability, a positive attitude and ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to lead a team.
  • Proven farm equipment maintenance skills.
  • Good communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following
  • Operating potato planter and harvester, crop sprayer and grain harvester
  • Maintenance on farm equipment
  • Lead and instruct the team of farm workers
  • Ability to think outside the box and to provide creative solutions
Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Employee will be required to perform duties in an agricultural setting to include potato fields and potato storages.
  • Employee is expected to be open to workday with mixture of both indoor and outdoor work.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and telephone keyboard and talk or hear.
  • Requires visual acuity to focus on desktop and/or laptop computer screen.
  • Requires standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time, talking and listening.
  • Work demands may fluctuate seasonally related to farming cycles, especially during planting and harvesting.
