Job Description

Position Title: Safety CoordinatorPosition Type: Regular - Full-TimePosition Location: Florenceville MainGrade: 00Requisition ID: 17955McCain Valley Farm and Farm of Future, are corporate farms operated by private family-owned McCain company. Valley Farm and Farm of Future are Agriculture industry leaders in potato yield and quality, and demonstration farms of technology, innovation and sustainability. McCain Valley Farms and Farm of Future are truly agricultural leaders in the potato industry.SUMMARY:Working for McCain Valley Farms and Farm of Future, the successful incumbent will develop and implement the health and safety processes to ensure a proactive approach of continuous improvement in the areas of safety policies & procedures, injury & illness prevention, safety management, crisis management, and Occupational health compliance in the Provinces of New Brunswick. This position will develop a safety excellence strategy and the journey map leading the farms to the ultimate goal of zero workplace incidents and best in class safety culture.This position will work within the framework of the McCain Foods Safety Program, this role will cover McCain Valley Farms and Farm of Future farming operations. The successful candidate will also collaborate with McCain regional/global Safety Leads to align with McCain’s global safety strategy and promote a safety culture.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial safety regulatory requirements. Act as the initial representative in the event of regulatory inspections. Ensure Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), ergonomic, noise, and process safety management efforts are focused to meet both the company’s requirements and local regulatory standards. Conduct safety audits and ensure supervisors and employees take proper and timely corrective action.
  • Ensure crisis management plan is up to date and that the management team is prepared to respond to emergencies. Annually develops and conducts periodic crisis drill simulations.
  • Implement McCain’s “Key Element” process to safety management, which includes behavior observation & coaching, supervisor training, and employee involvement. Facilitates employee safety committees and acts as a resource for department safety meetings held by supervisors and/or the safety function.
  • Implement continuous improvement disciplines into the safety improvement process. Participate and coordinate activities such as root cause analysis events, training/education in various continuous improvement processes. Develop and utilize tools that will maximize the effectiveness of the safety partnership.
  • Develop farm safety excellence strategy, journey map and action plans to establish McCain world class safety demonstration farms over time.
  • Develop and foster employee engagement through safety culture improvement initiatives.
  • Oversees the Workers’ Compensation Program to ensure that practices are in compliance with current regulations, that there is an accurate accounting of losses that return to work programs are optimized, and that a standardized record and reporting system is being used.
  • Plan, budget and execute specific programs and activities to prevent employee injury and illness and increase employee well being. Programs should target employee responsibility for individual safety and on-the-job activities that have an effect on employee health.
  • Utilize internal and external resources in the development of building a sustainable comprehensive safety program. Stays abreast of pending developments in safety that could impact the work environment via professional associations, workshops, etc.
  • Other projects/duties as assigned or needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily.   • Undergraduate degree or related experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in the field required.
  • Knowledge of Provincial safety regulations and worker’s compensation required. Training experience a plus.
  • Good working knowledge of human resources information systems, Excel, Access, Word, and Powerpoint required.
Required Length & Type of Experience:
  • A proven track record of continuous improvement and results orientation achieved through the development and growth of others.
  • Must excel at thought leadership and the ability to work with and influence others.
  • The ability to deal with and develop a plan in an ambiguous environment is key.
  • Experience in training and facilitating is a plus.

  • Requires standing and sitting for prolonged periods, talking and listening.
